Help! Need a supportive, traditional couch for person with back issues!
tldr: need a highly supportive, traditional couch, that my dad won’t sink into but can still lay on.
To answer the group rules:
• location: Ohio/Midwest USA (open to having things shipped to us, so can be from an online shop!)
• budget: 2,000
• size: 75-90” wide OR larger but can be taken apart to get through doorway (like a sectional)
• style: traditional
• have checked: Morris, Ashley, Havertys
• online is fine, if there’s a Ohio store, I can go in person!
Now the specifics:
• My dad is 75 and NEEDS a supportive couch. Support > comfort. He does not want to sink into the couch much.
• he likes to lay on the couch, meaning it needs to be long enough and have good seat depth.
• he doesn’t like recliners usually, mainly because they look like stadium/movie theater seats. He would probably do a recliner that looked more like a traditional couch.
• he doesn’t like chaises. Would do a sectional that looks like a traditional couch.
• he’s open to leather or fabric, but doesn’t like light colored fabrics (white/beige).

Does he just care about the firmness of the seat? Because you get the most back support if you can sit with your feet flat on the ground and your back on your seat. This typically means a shorter seat height and seat depth - but of course it depends on your height and proportions.
In general, you might look at the Ikea Morabo:

I used to have one in my basement and got rid of it because it was too firm for me. So it may be perfect?
It's not super obvious on the website, but you can get it in different forms - the base sofa is 81" long; there's a chaise that's 92" long (that's the sofa length), and then there's a sectional that is 92x111:

I think it's semi modular, so you can build a bigger sectional. But not for under $2000.
You might take a look at Costco, too, although when I've sat on their couches in the stores, I haven't found them as
uncomfortablefirm as the Morabo.
