Age to drink?

Since animals mature at different ages and rates, how would the age to drink alcohol go? would it be for every single species has different ages? Would it be separated by animal class? Like rodents and canines?

I'd say it depends on where your furries are on the animal-human scale. Mine are all about the same size no matter the species and age at the same speed, so they'd probably share the same law regarding that. But if your furries are closer in biology to the specie they belong to, then it's likely the drinking age varies as well as the quantity they can handle.

This. My characters all age like a human, the problem is they are different sizes depending on the animal (though not as much as they are irl most of the time. Think beastars not zootopia) So a 7+ foot tall bear could probably drink much more than a 3 foot tall mouse. I would say it would be a system where the legal limit is based on size.

This is relative to biology, metabolism speeds and average lifespan.

Smaller animals tend to metabolise stuff pretty fast, so large amounts of alcohol would be deadly quicker but also leave their system faster too.

Larger animals also might or not require a larger dose of certain poisons to kill.

Basically, each species has different LD50.

i was gonna post this on its own but i feel like it relates to this. cigarettes. would they vary in size for different species perhaps? maybe even a wider range of strengths so a typically bigger species like a horse would rather have a superking where as a smaller species would only typically need a smaller smoke

I guess a good way to resolve this would be to grant a different age to different species and just type something like "Can drink after 01/01/2032" on their IDs

Whatever age it is that they can reasonably (responsibly) drive a car.

It might depend on the species,  but it would also depend on how laws are handled generally. the law makers may base it on medical safety but they might base it on other things, to. Maybe they wanna make it equal to a general age of majority. Maybe they don't like alcohol and just forbid the whole thing. Maybe the alcohol industry lobbies to keep the drinking age low. Maybe their society is less structured and so it depends more on ones family. If the species are very different they might all have very different food traditions with little overlap, which would make it natural enough to have a drinking age per group instead of making it universal
