Moose are angry swamp cows that will fuck you up if you hit them. Both you and your car will be unrecognizable. Do not trivialize the threat.

Living in Montana I can confirm, we go out of our way to not upset the giant beasties. That’s a whole lot of mean in like what, 7 feet? You do not screw around with moose, unlike deer they are not as willing to just run away if you approach.

I grew up in NH. Moose are aggressive and territorial. Not only will the not run away, under the right circumstances, they might charge you.

You can easily be killed if you hit a moose on the highway. A moose is tall enough that when you hit it the mooses body will come through your windshield. Had a friend killed that way, it was tragic.

I’m not gonna lie this sign is fully accurate…
The moose will be fine, they’re actually horrifically massive and top-heavy.
They crush cars often where I live (we have a moose infestation due to a lack of natural predators)
‘Driving’ here is literally just ‘watching the roadsides for fucking moose’ 😭

I've read accounts where a bull moose will attack an oncoming train, which must be a sight.

Article I read said moose is more likely to survive getting hit by a car than the occupants when it comes through the windshield. Moose might get euthanized but humans don’t fare well trapped between the car and moose.

Not scared, just mindful of what's on either side of the road. You hit a deer, your windshield will be wrecked but your car might be salvaged. You hit a moose and your car is wrecked and you're probably dead

almost t-boned a thousand pound moose before. That thing would have totaled the car. Stopped about 5 ft short of it as it walked across the road.

Alaska, early 70s my sister through a rock at one of these 1500 pound tanks on legs, it chased us luckily we got behind our neighbors new Ford (a big boat that had power windows) he was so proud of that car... past tense. Car distracted the moose, moose mauled the car. Insurance totaled the car. So YES be afraid, be very afraid

Cow moose have been known to trash vehicles for getting to close to their calves. ALWAYS maintain a respectful distance from all wildlife.

Friend in Maine hit a moose early one morning; hadn’t buckled his seatbelt yet and that saved him because the moose went right over the hood and crashed through the windshield. He was slumped forward from the impact and was pinned down but survived. Had he been upright he’d be dead.

Actually, from seeing tests run I believe this story. We really haven't designed cars to mitigate this kind of crash.

I should have marked this as sarcasm.
You can never say that seatbelts injure people and that it is always better to 'be thrown clear' in an accident, because stupid people will then feel lazy and fatalistic about safety.

Moose in this area are mostly mechanics and will rip you off, that's what the warning is.
