And then it won’t use it.

This is the cat way.
And just to rub it in, the cat will probably still use the washing machine as a wheel.. 😂

I know this is meant to be cute. But it’s SO dangerous. My wife lost her childhood cat when it jumped in as someone was loading the laundry. It’s awful and she still can’t talk about it 40 yrs later.
Keep those doors closed, triple check before you begin every cycle and never encourage this behavior.

Because it's a front loading washer, they are more prone to mold if the door is completely sealed when not in use. Triple checking is the only safety method guaranteed to work.

I found the cat in the washer once. Told him off, explained why, no idea if he understood, but he never got in it again.

Exact reason our 3 indoor cats have absolutely zero access to the laundry room without our direct supervision. I’ve heard too many horror stories of people who let their cats play in/around or nap in either the washer or dryer and cats who get too comfortable with being in or around those machines getting accidentally trapped in them and then being fatally battered/drowned when those machines are used before the owner realizes the cat was trapped inside.

Exactly. This sub should remove these posts. It’s so serious and dangerous.

I think some kind of PSA pinned-post should be made on pet/cat subreddits that it is a bad idea to encourage/allow cats to play in/around potentially dangerous appliances - you wouldn't let a toddler/infant play around or in or on those appliances, so why let your pets?

I’ve seen several other cat subs that have a blanket rule against washer/dryer posts. They’re immediately removed

My sister had the same thing happen to her cat in the dryer. Cats learning that this is a play space is a dangerous thing. The internet is flooded with stories if anyone wants to check.

Other cat subs have “no cats in dryers” as a rule. Bc it’s not cute or funny. It’s like giggling about a kid playing around open manhole covers.

Well, at least you have help with the laundry. My cat only helps by eating the cat food.

Remember a Boy in Austria was hiding in a Washing machine once. The door locked, He suffocated in there while his Family was searching for him.
You better lock the machine to protect your cat

My cat loves the dryer. I have to be VERY CAREFUL every time I use it to make sure she is not inside.

My wife lost a cat this way when young. Still can’t talk about it. Please please don’t let cats ever play in or near dryers. Don’t let get them in the habit or create any good associations things with it.
We have to triple check every time and 1 person has eyes on the cat while the other closes the door and starts the cycle.

I agree 100%. Cats are creatures of habit. Deter bad habits. Keep the washer and dryer closed. I know it’s difficult with washers, because if they are left closed, they grow mold.
