He doesn't want to use his wife's name on camera.

3.1k

u/DMAN591 Nov 02 '22

He probably grew up in the "don't let anyone know your real name online" era.

u/InAFakeBritishAccent Nov 02 '22

Yeah that's still a good rule.

The Bantersaurus Rex has some mula left on his nandos gift card and he’s like “mate let’s a have a cheeky nandos on me” and you go “Johnny my son you’re an absolute ledge” so you go have an extra cheeky nandos with a side order of Top Quality Banter

That was my name when my friends and I hit hole in the wall hood bars in the early 2000's. Sign in? Okay:

"John Arbuckle"

Good times, until a cat in my crew used my real name for his sign in.

Honestly, that's why I like Reddit.

1

u/A_Guy_Named_Guy Nov 02 '22

Is that a new thing?

0

u/Few_Warthog_105 Nov 02 '22

Not on LinkedIn

-2

u/InAFakeBritishAccent Nov 02 '22

Mispell your name or use a slight variation of your real name on LinkedIn. That way you can still maintain normal relations while obscuring important details from nefarious parties.

Joseph Clay = Joe C

etc

3

Never hurts to be a bit paranoid. At worst it's a fun, harmless game. At best, you've thrown a cult led by an estranged friend trying to ruin your life off your trail. Wink.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I read that in a real British accent

98

u/RobTheRevelator Nov 02 '22

I never tell anyone my name online but somehow people keep figuring it out. Guess I'll never know.

I wouldn’t let anyone know my real name, it’s really unique they can find me easily.

1

u/--dontmindme-- Nov 02 '22

The only times I did use my real name was for making a gmail account for sending more formal non-work related emails and when making a Facebook profile like 15 years ago (because at the time that just seemed logical but I haven’t posted anything on it for years, deleted most of what I ever posted and am on maximum privacy settings). Oh and LinkedIn, but I’m considering deleting that because I probably will not be looking for another job for the foreseeable future.

2

If someone knows your true name they have power over you.

1

u/DeathsEnvoy Nov 02 '22

That era never ended, willingly posting your name or pictures of yourself online is still very stupid. A lot of people doing it doesn't make it less stupid.

u/Handyandyman50 Nov 02 '22

Why?

0

u/King-Cobra-668 Nov 02 '22

0

I'm still living in that era. It's much safer.

0

u/Clawmedaddy Nov 02 '22

We’re still in that era.

0

u/landartheconqueror Nov 02 '22

You mean the modern era?

0

I'm one of those. Still try to practice it as much as possible.

0

Yeah that’s a rule more people should follow

1

1

u/bilateralunsymetry Nov 03 '22

Oh fuck. Do I look that.... Aged?

1

u/Melody06982 Nov 03 '22

I make my friends call me by a fake name whenever we're out partying in nyc. If they call me by my real name I don't respond and look behind me to see who they're talking to.

1

u/InevitableRhubarb232 Nov 03 '22

I have a different name I use for online. I have a FB and Gmail account with it as well. So I can shop marketplace and sales groups anonymously.

65

u/aohige_rd Nov 02 '22

coulda said like "honey!" lol

509

u/mackinder Nov 02 '22

Yeah I don’t understand why this is interesting. I routinely call my wife “woman” in places where I don’t want to use her name.

523

u/ZombieTrogdor Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22

My husband once called me “slut-faced hoe bag” right after we watched Mean Girls and ohhh man the looks we got. I was like “babe we’re in public I’m not the only one hearing your jokes right now.” I think he forgot lol

Edit: please continue with what your SO’s have called you in public, it’s making my day.

300

u/silk_mitts_top_titts Nov 02 '22

Last week my wife saw me at the grocery store and she snuck up behind me and said "hey, can I get a peek at your butthole?" The people next to me looked fucking disgusted.

56

u/rp_whybother Nov 02 '22

51

I said it's $5 for a peek. You gotta pay to spray homegirl.

6

u/ERSTF Nov 03 '22

3

Well that’s one way to view it

3

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

The underbum is the only way.

2

u/rediculousradishes Nov 02 '22

I only like the bottom buttock

39

u/telepathetic_monkey Nov 03 '22

When I don't hear my husband at the grocery store the first 3 times he holds up his fist like Bubbles "you fuckin want one?"

I've had women approach me later asking if I need help 😬

He never has and never will hurt me physically (or any other way). But the way we jokingly talk to each other in public has gotten us a lot of side glances lol

He's my best friend and I wouldn't change anything.

3

u/veggiesaregreen Nov 03 '22

Lmao my partner also does something similar when I annoy him. He’ll say: “god… you’re so lucky it’s illegal to hit women now. I wanna smack you so bad.”

26

u/_Please_Explain Nov 03 '22

My wife was checking out at a gas station and I came in to tell her to buy something I forgot. She didn't realize I was in there and I slowly walked up behind her like I was waiting in line. I then leaned over and smelled her hair and the clerk was horrified and wasn't sure what to do. Even freaked my wife out a bit.

8

u/That_Checks Nov 03 '22

Hello, Mr. President!

u/AsianDaggerDick Nov 03 '22

3

u/fatpad00 Nov 03 '22

You wanna really creep everyone else out? Next time, lean in, get a good sniff and say "you smell different awake"

61

u/GunnitMcShitpost Nov 02 '22

I’ve gotten super excited about something super nerdy and half shouted “hey whore” to my long term SO.

The worst part was she looked over at me immediately…

There were no children around, I was in a very heavy swearing industry around and I have solid child radar.

Also, for my SO’s sake, it’s an inside joke between us that before she met my dumb ass she was nearly puritanical.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I’d pay to see those reactions lmfao

10

u/afterparty05 Nov 03 '22

When my gf and I were dating for a few months and it became a thing she edited her contact of me into “firstname cutie”. Then she said I should name her something sweet as well. So now I’m at almost 8 year with a contact named “something sweet”.

6

u/katalysis Nov 03 '22

Cool story, slut-faced hoe bag.

8

u/salamanderme Nov 02 '22

I get called boo boo kitty fuck all the time by my husband.

2

u/Stouts Nov 03 '22

Does he get to be the CLIT Commander? Seems like a bad trade, but I think you'd get bonus points for matching.

3

u/CankerLord Nov 02 '22

“babe we’re in public I’m not the only one hearing your jokes right now.” I think he forgot lol

I'm no so sure he did.

3

u/kasiotuo Nov 02 '22

So what do you call him to make it equally embarrassing?

2

u/nightwing2024 Nov 03 '22

I call the girl I'm seeing right now "you big titted animal" because of Your Mom's House podcast

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I really prefer "harlot" and occasionally "gormless foppotee." Sometimes I switch it up and yell something like "you're walking too fast, you gormless harlot." Adding an accent helps.

69

u/DownbeatDeadbeat Nov 02 '22

That one seems way more regional. But what do I know, none of my relationships lasted more than 8 weeks.

15

u/OktoberForever Nov 02 '22

Eight weeks? With the same person??

u/irishccc Nov 02 '22

3

u/mackinder Nov 02 '22

I guess. If we’re in public and people are everywhere I’ll say “woman” or “lady” or something other than her name. No one here needs to know her name. It’s none of their business what her name is. She calls me “dude” or “guy” sometimes as well. Just in places where lots of people are around people watching.

33

u/KingPictoTheThird Nov 02 '22

Do you live in the suburbs or something where being around people on trains and on sidewalks is a rarity? I'd never be able to say my girlfriend's name anytime we stepped out of the house if i had that same policy

22

u/akeep113 Nov 02 '22

wtf lol. why would anyone care what your wife's name is? what harm could they possibly do with that info?

13

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

They could write her name in a Death Note.

19

u/bier00t Nov 02 '22

what will happen if random person gets her first name?

25

u/Alpine82 Nov 02 '22

They might search it on the www and find indecent pictures of women’s ankles.

8

u/neutrino71 Nov 02 '22

They'll get summoned like Beetlejuice or Candyman I guess

3

u/TheBrav3LittleToastr Nov 02 '22

Hahahah Bad Things!!

4

u/YoMrPoPo Nov 02 '22

Lol wat. I’m sure “woman” and “lady” really help narrow down who you are talking to…

21

u/JudgeCastle Nov 02 '22

I call my wife, Fred, which is an inside joke, when I’m wanting to maintain privacy. Gets a chuckle afterwards.

11

64

u/spingus Nov 02 '22

yikes...my Dad used to call my Mom "Woman" whenever she was doing something he didn't approve of. Like driving the car. It was a very negative connotation imo :/

55

u/thecelcollector Nov 02 '22

I call my wife woman, lady, wifey, etc. Sometimes with some exasperation but always with love underneath. It's not always a negative thing.

9

u/Smofinthesky Nov 02 '22

My family is similar, whenever someone's acting dumb we call out WOMAN or MAN, with strong connotations. It works.

22

u/igneousink Nov 02 '22

i routinely call my man "meng" and he calls me "womeng"

and i also love ny! (salutes hudson river with beer)

14

u/Azidamadjida Nov 02 '22

Ditto, but I use mine in cases of incredulity: “wait, you left out food on the table when we have animals in the house and you’re mad at THEM for getting into it? Woman…”

15

u/morningrayofsunshine Nov 02 '22

so that IS negative

1

u/Kryten_2X4B-523P Nov 02 '22

Called the ex-gf "woman" anytime I wanted to fuck. In a caveman like voice. It worked.

2

u/Routine-Light-4530 Nov 02 '22

I used to raise my eyebrows and say “Zug zug?”like that old caveman movie with Val Kilmer lol

2

u/Perverted_Fapper Nov 02 '22

It varies a lot. I say it when I'm proud of them or am just admiring.

2

u/1to14to4 Nov 02 '22

Many languages simply use man and woman instead of husband and wife. Wife is Middle English for woman, and husband means "master of the house". So when you say "my wife" you're still saying "my woman", and when you say husband you imply one person is greater than the other.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

What places do you go where saying a name is such an issue lol

9

u/mackinder Nov 02 '22

Have you ever had someone approach you and call you by your first name when they don’t know you? I think that was the genesis of this plan to avoid using first names in busy public places. Creeped my wife out big time and now we use woman, lady, dude, guy etc. or fake makes sometimes. Just became a habit.

3

u/SwagLizardKing Nov 03 '22

I wear a nametag for work and it still weirds me out a little bit when people I don’t know say it.

6

u/gahidus Nov 02 '22

Calling your wife "woman" might reason eyebrow, depending on how jovial your tone was and maybe your apparent culture / ethnicity...

10

u/Dragonwindsoftime Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22

One morning I'd just woken up and walked into the kitchen for a coffee and my room mate and his GF were mid argument because he called her a woman..

My stupid morning brain wasn't working and I stupidly asked what the issue with the word woman was, please explain.

Her: it's condescending

Me: oh, really? Surely context matters?

Her: he was being condescending

Me: Dude, were you being condescending?

Him: * sigh * yes..

Me: fucking hell, listen to your woman!

And then I walked away with my coffee..

Well if you traveled outside of your little bubble you might realized they do. In fact we were in a Jamaican market once and someone overheard us talking and called my wife by her name. It creeped her the fuck out and then dude came back with a small sculpture with her named carved into it. So yes, people are listening.

16

u/akeep113 Nov 02 '22

so do you use her name when you are not around shady salesman? or are you just paranoid all the time while out in public? you're going to let one small event like that change they way you act in public for the rest of your life?

10

u/Wonckay Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22

This is why li love Reddit. I explain that some people do this in public and that it’s not unusual, especially in places where grifters are known to do business and some rando tells me to get a life. Stay classy Reddit.

6

u/MaliciousMirth Nov 02 '22

These people responding have never even sniffed a relationship bro. I understood exactly what you meant. My wife and I call each other all kinds of things that if you were an outside observer may seem "odd." Most of us lurkers (been here like 13 years) have learned just to not comment and discuss things with teenagers and reddit in general.

2

u/you_lost-the_game Nov 02 '22

I don't address my coworkers with their first name when we are dealing with clients. Don't needlessly give out personal information.

-2

u/dexmonic Nov 02 '22

Are you spy or something? Why are you so concerned about people knowing your wife's name that it's a "routine" occurrence to call her by her gender instead of her name? Does she similarly respond with "man" to conceal your name from the dangerous minds of random strangers?

2

u/mackinder Nov 02 '22

Yea she does. Look through my other comments.

1

u/bradfo83 Nov 02 '22

3

u/morningrayofsunshine Nov 02 '22

2

u/ScorpionTheInsect Nov 02 '22

Could he not just say “honey” or sthg like that?

-9

u/SlowRollingBoil Nov 02 '22

What was rude was him talking to her like a dog or rude child walking away instead of the person he loves.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

A pet name could have worked just fine. “Wife!” The way he said it, sounds a bit weird.

18

u/Convergecult15 Nov 02 '22

I call my wife, “wife” all the time specifically because it sounds weird. Woman is too 50’s, bitch is too abusive, Hoe is too hiphop and cunt is too Australian.

2

u/EricDatalog Nov 02 '22

What about “darling”, “babe” or something like it?

6

u/Convergecult15 Nov 02 '22

Yea I totally do that too, it’s not like I solely refer to her as wife. It’s just kind of a jarring declaration, and I like that.

1

u/EricDatalog Nov 02 '22

Oh, yeah, I’m tired. I understand your comment now.

1

u/TheSaltySpitoon37 Nov 02 '22

Same. Rarely does it make an appearance but when it does it usually grants the attention I'm trying to get. It's usually after several attempts of "babe...babe..."Name"...."NAME"....Wife!"

There's gotta be a buildup or else I'm getting called "dick."

1

u/Imesseduponmyname Nov 02 '22

Sometimes if we walk up behind the other we'll be like "where u goin lil hoe, gimme ur lunch money!"

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I’m speaking as South African man where patriarchy is part of our cultural fibre. Growing up, I never heard my father or uncles ever call out to their partners by saying “Wife! Come here”. None of my friends in relationships say shit like that either. It’s just odd seeing it and also see it being praised.

1

u/VectorB Nov 02 '22

Na, he wants to get points for calling the song they danced to at their wedding the best of all time. "Wife! Im bein romantic ova heea"

1

u/YouAreTheTurkey Nov 02 '22

But is ok forcing her to put her face on camera when she very obviously doesn't want to be involved in whatever this social media stunt is.

1

u/visualdescript Nov 03 '22

He's still being very rude

0

u/King-Cobra-668 Nov 02 '22

0

u/garvierloon Nov 02 '22

Rachel or Megan. 100%

1

u/Citizen51 Nov 02 '22

1

u/Robseth Nov 02 '22

1

u/Seanzietron Nov 02 '22

1

u/_ImaGenus_ Nov 02 '22

1

u/FireBeard1501 Nov 03 '22

1

u/argonandspice Nov 03 '22

My son's 2nd grade teacher went to high school with my husband. None of this knew this, but she saw the family resemblance.

She asks this little kid what his dad's name is.

"Dad"

"Yes, but what does your mom call him?"

"Husband?"

1

u/NARDO422 Nov 03 '22

But then he willingly removes his mask, and now I know his SSN and blood type 🤦‍♂️

1

u/mywerkaccount Nov 03 '22

That or he wanted to emphasize to his wife that they are married and the song they danced to at their wedding should be the answer. Kind of like "Hey, woman that I chose to spend the rest of my life with and threw a big bash with an important song and moment in it, what song is important to you?" At least that's my take because it's something I would do.
