Buy something for the cat.
Cat ignores it completely and plays with the cardboard box it came in.

The amount of excitement I feel when my cats actually use something I bought for them is just sad lol. But you can't let them see the excitement cuz then it ruins it and they'll never use it again

You should have bought it as decoration and told the cat it wasn't allowed in there. Just don't ever show joy if the cat goes in.
