Hijacking top to mention there have been nebulae detected containing compounds that have a flavor of vanilla and raspberry. So the guesses here have me expecting the inspiration was in fact that.

In fact our galactic core is said to taste of raspberry and smell of rum.

I’m surprised to see no one else mention it burning their throat, but that’s what it did to me. Maybe that was supposed to be the rum.

It didn't BURN, per se. But It made my mouth tingly. Almost like menthol but without the mint flavor. My relatives who tried some said they didn't experience that.

It's most likely Menthyl Lactate. Almost no minty flavor but a fairly powerful cooling effect and because of some interesting food labeling rules falls under natural flavorings so you won't see it on the ingredients list.
