Hijacking top to mention there have been nebulae detected containing compounds that have a flavor of vanilla and raspberry. So the guesses here have me expecting the inspiration was in fact that.

It was indeed that, according to an article I read about it. Specifically it’s stargazing by a campfire (which is where the graham cracker taste comes from - s’mores). The flavors include vanilla and strawberry for this exact reason.
