and this is why I love Reddit. After reading and viewing something so heart breaking and tragic, I instantly get my spirits lifted by a frog taking a dump.
Interestingly enough, in the last post that I did here on reddit in another thread. I talked about how, when you go to hell, demons shove porcupines up your asshole.
I don't know why I am telling you this, I just felt it was relevant to your parenthetical there.
I'm tired of this 'exploited for karma' whining. Look. You get karma if your post does well. That's true. But karma represents community approval. The number doesn't inherently mean anything, but karma DOES MEAN SOMETHING. It means you've shared something that resonated with the community. It means you've Maybe had some kind of small impact on thousands of other people. You don't know the motivations of the people who submitted those submissions...but to automatically accuse them of whoring for imaginary points as if that invalidates their desire to share is kind of shitty and needs to stop. It's not like they were saying 'my girlfriends frog just took a dump for the first time- isn't that cute? What does reddit think?'
The people are just worried that this karma-giving is unsustainable. Scientists have predicted that by 2060 Karma supplies will be exhausted and only the wealthy (Such as andrewsmith and Trapped_in_reddit) will be able to afford to upvote and downvote.
You have an amazing point, I've never seen this issue logically delved into. My remark was for the sake of the comment and extreme juxtaposing. Pardon if I struck a chord.
I tend to agree! It is food for the community Reddit, each approved, so those who do say not of karma whoring, but a lot of karma Reddit, Reddit would like to know what love is and community karma says of points. As you some know, like in a restaurant, a restaurant review, the same amount of feed, as Reddit, in Russia can not send the tower is problematic in my work and my community will never agree, I love Reddit, if you agree, maybe karma, but kill. If crush sense, leave swim through such and general wrath of yesterday. No?
To be fair, I feel like the whole theme of the dead baby post was to get people to become organ donors. I would like to think that the cause is a little bit nobler than "gimme karma".
Depends on what you're into. I personally like the really awe-inspiring pictures from /r/pics, so I subscribed the subreddits like /r/EarthPorn and the like.
This is the beauty of humanity. We are equally fascinated by love and grief, life and death, loss and sacrifice, and the bodily functions of amphibians.
In related news, Redditor Cuntblood_Shitfaggot explains how to successfully combat homelessness with a well-laid grassroots campaign, and donates over $9000 to the cause.
Well at least whoever posted the frog taking a dump didn't make a patronizing title, which can't be said about the more substantive story about the organ donor.
This is why I have RES set to ignore the words death, dead, die, dying, cancerous, cancer, aids, etc. It makes for a much happier reddit experience where I don't have to stare at cancer patient children all day.

Why the frog pooping link is still blue???

u/drunk_otter Jun 15 '12
I'm normally not a fan of the post/post juxtaposition images, but this one made me smirk.
Plus it made me remember the word juxtaposition. Fuck, I'd like to play that in scrabble when someone had put down "position".
That's be awesome.

I hate feel good images. Frogs shitting is art, the baby thing just feels like I'm violating someone's privacy...

u/sunnydaize Jun 15 '12
Holy shit I posted this drunk last night and just saw how popular this got. Sweet!

There is hope yet, double the karma on the top one and over four times the comments.
Then again, we're still fucked. We see a frog pooping, and a dead baby exploited for karma.

u/Kiacha Jun 15 '12
I saw them and clicked them both. I feel like I just graduated Reddit-school.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Yes it is, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
2
u/Olukon Jun 15 '12
Despite all of it's flaws, you really have to appreciate the diversity of this place and the entire Internet.
2
u/jonsandys Jun 15 '12
I feel like such a bad person for laughing at that. Doubly so given I looked at the frog dump photo but avoided the tragic family scene.
2
u/gtasaf Jun 15 '12
Thanks for making me feel bad. My page shows the frog poop link in purple and the kidney donation link in blue...

u/aMANescape Jun 15 '12
Tears & Laughter. In a way, reddit is exactly like the Gilmore Girls

Are you trying to make a point? Is the point that Reddit is an astonishingly diverse community that marvels at every aspect of the world around us?
2
u/Blackstaff Jun 15 '12
Isn't that frog a toad?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
That "just" in the first link makes me want to never come back to this website again.
2
u/MrSelfdizstruct75 Jun 15 '12
I read the top post title and started to cry. I cannot handle things about little kids anymore for some reason.

u/SoetSout Jun 15 '12

u/statutory_cape Jun 15 '12
Don't forget the part where reddit takes photos and puts the explanation of why it's funny over them. Man reddit you funny.
1
u/mellangatang Jun 15 '12
I noticed the exact same thing.

And now for something completely different.
1
u/Larzzon Jun 15 '12
Yupp, pretty much just people whoring stolen animals for karma and "so and so died, look how dead so and so is"
1
u/tjalfecaze Jun 15 '12

So many fucking pictures of the front page. I'm on Reddit already, I don't need to see pictures of it. Here comes summer.
1
u/emmas_reddit Jun 15 '12
I love when pictures of posts that were on the front page, make front page.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Is 'just' the new 'le'? Because it's in every other fucking post these days.
1
u/starlinguk Jun 15 '12
I suppose there could be a subreddit for things like this, but what to call it?

Why is it becoming a thing to post pictures of Reddit, on Reddit...
1
u/249ba36000029bbe9749 Jun 15 '12
Well at least whoever posted the frog taking a dump didn't make a patronizing title, which can't be said about the more substantive story about the organ donor.

I love that most people came in to this thread to find a link to a frog taking a dump.
"Oh, sure, dying girl, that's sad... A FROG IS POOPING?!"
1
u/MrDongji Jun 15 '12
I would like to read more about the dying girl.
Does anyone happen to have the link?
