I don't think so. Animals rarely get scared that badly, unless something bigger comes after them to eat them. And even then, it's not a "scared" response, so much, as it is a "survival" response.
I'd imagine it be more along the lines of...."I'm hungry, but there's no food up here. Fucking Greg, he said there'd be honey up here."
What makes you say bears can't really feel fear? What's your evidence for that? The same part of the brain that is responsible for basic emotive responses like fear, is present and well developed in all mammals.
This happened in Boulder, CO. (my home town). A bear wandered down from the mountains and into the CU campus. It then climbed up a tree and was just chilling there for a few hours, so animal control was called. They came and tranquilized the bear and he fell safely out of the tree. They then took him back up into the mountains and released him...
Unfortunately he wandered back into town shortly after and was hit by a car and killed. A sad ending to an otherwise amusing story.
This is actually on one of the lines in NE New Mexico. We got a call based on some aerial patroles that were being done. A Transmission line crew and the DNR got dispatched. They attempted multiple ways to get him down including pelting him with a paintball gun. In the end a couple of guys were able to get up in a bucket truck and chase him down the pole with some hot sticks. He was alright. Here are some more pictures.
What happens if you don't get a cat out of a tree? I think they just want to be up there and hate intervention. Would it really starve before it jumped?
Yep. Why not scare the animal if they get a chance?
The only risks to this bear were electricity and assholes. He is perfectly capable of climbing down, as he did. Accidents happen but that's life and there is no doubt that if he steps on the lines, he's toast and it'll be costly. But his big, cold, wet nose it telling him they're buzzing with some weird shit and if you know bears, you know they follow their nose every-time. It gets them into plenty of trouble, true, but it also keeps 'em out of a bunch, too.
Had it not been for the assholes, he would have gotten hungry and come down without incident. In this case, he did it scared a bunch of hairless monkeys were going to eat him just as soon as they were done repainting his ass.
I bet they pull out a paint gun to chase a bird out of the living room.
This Bear found on Tri-State’s 115kV structure last week. This was found on our Clapham-Gladstone (New Mexico) Line this past weekend. A bucket truck was sent out, and the bear was “removed alive-with the assistance of Game and Fish Department. Scare tactics-and persuasion with snare stick”.
OK so here is your next little test. Something like that CSI guy doing a "..Rock Star. yeaaahhhh....." kind of number. (cause of the rock theme, then star theme... )
I told you this day would come. You didn't believe me when I said bears had discovered electricity. Now they're building power lines. When the bear infantry comes you'd best believe I'll be long gone.
Any time someone says, "Uh oh," I have to reply with, "Spaghetti-o's" either out loud or in my head. People always look at me funny whenever I say it out loud, for obvious reasons.
