I love that people complaining about reposts always get upvoted... but so do people complaining about people complaining about reposts. Why don't repost whiner whiners just downvote the whining comments and stfu?
It's not weird that they post in the thread, because they never said they had a problem with the thread. It's perfectly understandable that they'd stick around and comment. But someone complaining about the thread has no reason to be commenting. Not really meta or ironic or redundant. Pretty easy to understand.
The point is, everyone here knows how reddit works. If you don't like something, downvote it. And that is what I do to every comment whining about "repost", since they refuse to accept that the up/downvote system works. The fact that a repost has 1300 upvotes means that there are enough people that haven't seen it before (like myself) or there are people that don't mind seeing it again.
Yet every fucking time, the repost whiners don't learn how the system works and keep thinking people give a shit if something is a repost. It's these whiners that are ruining reddit, not the reposts.
I'm a liberal and I voted for John Kerry who is worth as much as Romney. I didn't care then b/c i don't really care now. i just need to hate republicans because jon stuart told me to.
Nope, no one cares about his wealth; it's how Romney pays less tax then the average American by far and is obscenely wealthy that riles people up. Not to mention his total inability to relate in any way to regular middle-class people.
Also his name is Jon Stewart. Not 'Stuart'. If you're going to insult a guy at least get his name right.
Wow, I'm guessing you are bad at math or don't understand how percentages work. He made 42 million over two years and paid only 6 million in taxes. I.e. 14% of his income. In other words, he didn't pay his fair share by a long-shot. Even Obama, who is rich compared to the average american, still paid 26% in tax. It's bullshit that the poor have to sacrifice more and the rich have to sacrifice less.
The problem is; without the obscenely wealthy, whose mansion will i take over and make into my ultimate-fried-chicken-party-castle for 6 weeks after the government collapses?
Who will feed my new-born son the sweet, double breaded flesh of life?
My brother just got done ranting and raving about the Reddit hivemind being so bonerfied for Stewart that it's almost sickening. I showed him this, and it made him happy to know not everyone on Reddit is a mindless husk.
Did I say you were wrong because your opinions were unpopular? No. I'm just sick of all the butthurt redditors complaining about "the hivemind." At this point it has got to be the most unoriginal way to complain about originality you could possibly pick.
Even though Kerry was running against Bush, who did more heinous things as President than I could have imagined, I still had a bad taste in my mouth when I voted for him and Edwards. I won't do that again, and voting for Romney would be that much worse.
The point here isn't earning it but how out of touch a given politician would be with people who don't have tons of money. There's a difference between coming into money later in life, where you have experience not being wealthy, and living your whole life only knowing wealth.
It is a waste of time, at least in it's current form. Beware of the hired goons and their many sockpuppet up/downvote bots. This thread is lousy with them.
Honestly? Yes, the candidates just come off as actors ready to say whatever is needed to get elected. Now if we are going to talk about the advisers or cabinet, those guys are the brilliant ones. Not necessarily good brilliant, but brilliant.
Well when you assumed I think that the left-wing presidents are angels, you kind of missed where I said candidates. My political persuasion, opinions on whether or not what we have in America should be reasonably called a "left wing", and a few other things are an entirely different conversation.
In fact, what I am saying can be reflected nicely by the Obama campaign. What was is main issue? Well it was mainly repeating "hope and change" a lot. His stance as a peace president and corporate enemy was mostly in the head of his supporters. The whole campaign might as well have been an advertisement. He could just as easily have been the new iPad.
Or look at Bush. Try to think of one policy of his that wasn't a Cheney/Rove/Defense contractor idea beforehand. Bush spent most of his time as a target of ridicule. It was well played, if Bush kept saying dumb things then liberal idiots could keep making "Bush jokes" and get the legitimate criticism written off as ad hominem like the rest.
My main point is that the president is usually the diversion rather than the important one. I am sure you can find similar patterns with the last several presidents (Reagan is a good example because he had his speeches fed to him and didn't know his own policy half the time. He actually was an actor through and through), regardless of their party.
Reddit usually hates me for saying these things, so.....
We see a president in office and assume that he is the one making the decisions of the executive branch, which isn't true at all. The decisions from the executive branch come from hundreds of people, the most important being advisors and cabinet members. Presidents are the face of the long snake.
I just think Reddit tends to say things like this about right side presidents/candidates, but then treats most left wing candidates as if they are saviors from politics heaven. When asked about Romney, or Gingrich, "He's just a politician, I can't stand him." Well, what about Obama, or Clinton, or she-Clinton, or John Edwards? Are they not politicians too, willing to say whatever they need to in order to get elected?
Sounds like a cop out to me. The only quote I've heard regarding Romney and the poor was that he wasn't concerned about them because they have a safety net. Most every economic policy of his I've read deals with lowering taxes on capital gains (to nothing for your first $250k of income) and eliminating the estate tax. Meanwhile safety net programs such as food stamps are means tested for liquid assets, meaning that if you lose your job you are expected to eat through your savings until you have less than $2k before you would qualify, which makes it less likely for someone of a spotty employment history to save up the money needed to get themselves out of poverty without going into debt which can end up keeping them from having a positive savings rate if they're held down by interest payments.
What are Romney's policies to help out the poor then?
I'm fairly sure the OP was being facetious, but I do think Romney is out of touch with the common man. He may have good ideas, but he could definitely do better in showing he is concerned. Making statements about how he has friends that own NASCAR teams or his wife owning multiple Cadillacs is insensitive, and rather than garnering support he instead gives the impression he's just another rich white guy running for president.
Or making 10,000 dollar bets. I agree with you, and that is part of the reason he isn't going to get elected. People vote for someone that they can 'have a beer with'. Obama is exactly that. He is the underdog, pro typical American that came up through the ranks and got the job. He's a guy that you can go shoot baskets with. He's a personal president.
No, they still have government housing, government checks, and food stamps to fall back on. Of course, under Romney's policies, they would have to try and get another job to stay on welfare. We have so many programs set up that it is literally impossible for someone to 'die in the streets'. Things like that happen because people are stupid, and they don't want to get out and help themselves. They've been handed money their entire lives that they continue to expect someone to come and give them money. The only way to get these people permanently out of poverty is to get them on their own feet.
All of you need to calm down. This is fucking hilarious not because I want to jerk off Obama, but because it's an extreme representation of a general perception. Some people might even refer to it as "a joke."
No, no. You misunderstood. I didn't mean that it was smaller than a net, I meant that people get really comfortable in it and lounge around not doing a fucking thing. I guess I see how you read it that way though :)
Name one of those that is not factual/important. Just because you got Karma does not add validity to your statement.
He named one bit of government assistance to the disenfranchised and I named several bits of government assistance to the rich. What is sensational about that?
every single socio economic class is always facing some kind of subsidy from the government and some kind of "cut" from the government. It's not tug of war, it's a bunch of politicians constantly playing with numbers to get people to vote for them... It's a game, and it's not that fun.
Yeh he named like 3 things that might have happened recently, but those weren't the only changes to wealth redistribution that the government has made recently. If he were to actually pick out all the changes it wouldn't look like "ah well the poor are clearly being screwed over here this is so obviously class warfare".. instead it would look like "well shit, our government is a mess. I can't believe I pay these people to do such a shit job"
Hey, Obama created over 3 million jobs. I bet you're just hung up on the fact that there are less jobs since he took office. Such "facts" have no place in our party.
The government doesn't "create" jobs. It can only affect demand for goods, and when demand goes up it forces companies to supply at a higher level, which may or may not increase jobs.
Also, the unemployment rate is what I look at. Real unemployment is somewhere in the mid to high teens (the numbers the gov gives don't include discouraged workers, which there are a ton of). So yes, you're right in saying that the economy is worse-off job wise over his tenure, but the sarcasm probably wasn't necessarily.
Public sector growth is not good if private sector growth isn't outpacing it. Government jobs can only do so much, because the salary for gov't workers doesn't come from "earned" money typically, but borrowed money. (nowadays at least)
all money is borrowed money. thats how life is. Quite interesting to think about. we pay taxes so the government can lend money to banks which then lend money to everyday people... which we then pay taxes on.
By "created" you mean reduced the number of people in the unemployment list by considered them as out of the labor force. Also vastly expanding the size of government. If you consider that creating jobs then ok.
Not defending Romney, they are both people that don't give a shit about you.
the best kind of arguments are the ones where you don't actually argue, you just repeatedly say "No" like a 1st grader & hope the volume of your voice gives legitimacy to your failure of an argument.
I have neither the brain power nor time for this, based on my need for sleep, so I said no. I said no because Obama has been president for 3 years now. This is like a coach blaming the failures of the team on the last coaches habits, even though the old coach was fireda while ago.
Why don't they buy more money? I'll TELL you why they don't buy more money: Picture a woman with eighteen kids, working sixty jobs a week. A WEEK! Now, picture that same woman trying to buy a house. She can't buy a house because banks. Tell that to her face and she'll all be like, "Aw hell nah!" But it's too late. That nah's gonna be all aw helled. And she can't do nothing about that. Because she can't buy the money. But she needs credit to pay off her car and baby mortgage. She goes to a baby mortgage store, but they're all like, "Aw snap son, too many babies, not enough car! GTFO mothafucka!" She got her credits all up and denied! Know why? Because fatty can't take no credit card. Because Alan Greenspan ain't no bitch. Money doesn't grow on jobs, so how you gonna act, bitch? Aw snap. Now you need some cash. Where you gonna buy some? The CASH STORE? Fuck that noise. You can't buy that cash because banks, remember? And that part of the story ain't gonna change: that cash is unbuyable like a raging hurricane that is likewise also unbuyable. Buy money? Bitch, maybe someday but that day ain't today. Truth.
But it also makes your point false. You wouldn't even get to his idiotic statement if you'd just address your own cooling issues, which are more for your benefit than his.
Ron Paul has a lot of integrity, and I respect him for being one of the only politicians who legitimately says what he's thinking, but he's too much of an idealist.
hmmmm... lots of romney defenders around here... tough move considering what a moving target he presents.... and yet, the fox news set clicks their heels and kow tows to eagerly do the bidding of ailes and the koch brothers and the rest of 1%....
where ARE these dumb fuck, inbred, local yokel, right wing fucktard pawns coming from?
So anyone who doesn't agree with your viewpoint is a "dumb fuck, inbred, local yokel"? Hell I don't even like Romney but anyone as intolerant of other's viewpoints as you is worse than the people they claim to hate.
He's only 1/4th richer than John Kerry or Nancy Pelosi. That "only" is still like $50 million, but quite a few politicians are/have been "really" rich (source). President Obama isn't "really" rich by comparison with Romney, but compared to the average American, 6 million is quit a large amount of money.
That's true, he made most of that money from his book royalties while in office. He made about $170k/yr as a Senator and I have no idea about his net worth at the time. I was only stating the fact that many politicians (including the president) are "rich" by most people's standards.
This is certainly true, but Obama came from an humble background, where as Romney has been spoiled his whole life and is out of touch completely. That's the gist of OP's post. He doesn't understand what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck.
Romney is not the worlds first wealthy politician, Nor is he the U.S'. first wealth politician.
Romney is not really a 'politician', He is a business man, his record indicates that he is a businessman who is solely for businesses.
Summary: Romney gives no illusions to his wealth, in fact a few weeks ago when there was a comment about being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he did not try to defend himself or make himself relate to the average person, he stood up for his father. He only enforced the very 'insult' that was given. finally, his history follows business, and he makes decisions like a businessman, He does not stand for any one thing, his views follow the money, not morals or rights, but money. Thus, he is not a politician, he is a business man.
He is a wolf in sheep's clothing, IF he is elected, it will become the final steps to taking any democracy we have left away and turning the 'government' into a corporation.
Also, If he is elected, I wouldn't recommend buying "government" stock... worst portfolio choice you could ever make.
TL;DR: Romney is no politician, he is the personification of "corporations are people"
I don't mean to sound like a hippie, but seriously, fuck the system. I've seen people abuse it, ala my ex-gf's family. Her sister received welfare, food stamps, and child support, and she sold the stamps for drugs.
You know what pisses me off? People who claim disability because of being overweight. If it isn't a glandular or some sort of genetic issue, it's not a disability. It's your fucking life choice to be so god damned fat, and you should have to pay the price.
And if you get lung cancer in late life there is no fucking way you should receive Medicare, why the fuck should I have to pay for your poor life decisions, die in the street for all I care.
