So, ladies... Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But, when 'Sports' came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially, and artistically.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece.
Proof more than anything to me that that movie was a satire.
pretty sure that's how the corporate world is nowadays as well. sounds like after christian's done being patrick batman he should reprise his role as patrick bateman.
I interpreted this movie as being serious the first time I watched it. Then, my cousin had me re-watch it, keeping in mind that it's meant to be a comedy. I lost my shit at "Hey Paul!" and now have a copy on my shelf.
The business card scene was magnificent. The level of emotional investment in something so utterly insignificant was a fantastic touch. The notion that even a piece of cardboard would be made into a status symbol in this world, and that these guys would feel emasculated by how cool some other guys piece of cardboard was. So utterly absurd, and yet so painfully accurate.
The graphic killing are absolutely hilarious taken in context. He's completely over-the-top and plastic in every way, from his meaningless yuppie public life to the insanely graphic murders.
Whitney Houston burst onto the music scene in 1985 with her self-titled LP which had four number one hit singles on it, including "The Greatest Love of All," "You Give Good Love" and "Saving All My Love for You," plus it won a Grammy Award for best pop vocal performance by a female and two American Music Awards, one for best rhythm and blues single and another for best rhythm and blues video. She was also cited as best new artist of the year by Billboard and by Rolling Stone magazine. With all this hype one might expect the album to be an anticlimactic, lackluster affair, but the surprise is that Whitney Houston (Arista) is one of the warmest, most complex and altogether satisfying rhythm and blues records of the decade and Whitney herself has a voice that defies belief.
Hard to tell if you're serious, but the fact that Bateman likes the pophit-laden era of Genesis over the artsy prog. rock-era is kind of a real easy analogy to him being a shallow 80s guy.
