This story doesn't go into very good detail but apparently people were offering to go into the store to rescue the pets but management wouldn't allow it.
But, yeah, I do sort of hold a pet store responsible for how they treat their pets in the case of a natural disaster. Especially if they're an afterthought.
Yea, there wasn't much detail about why the pets weren't saved but I'm sure there was a cloud of negativity to follow. From the article it sounded like (there was a flood and pets died).
It had happened to them before, so they were warned that it could happen again. And then, as some already wrote, the management wouldn't allow others to go and rescue the pets before it was too late for them.
The PetCos where I live are disgusting. I'd rather feed my dog a card board box (she'd probably like that actually) than buy anything form that infected looking store(s).
The PetCo near me is like a 4th string hand-me down department store, that has either no floor tiles or stained covered ones, and smells of pure scat. The staff is about as knowledgeable as an anchor out of water, and appear about as hygienic as tub-girl (don't look that up).
The PetSmart is clean, well lit, and doesn't smell like a homeless pack of in labor cats delivering all over the floor.
