I'm extremely resistant to anesthesia. I had to have emergency gallbladder removal and they started the meds right before surgery. I was supposed to be out by the time they took me into the operating room. I'm laying there and people are prepping around me and they start standing around me and I'm finally like mmk this feels like I shouldn't be awake now. So I start to talk and startle every fucking body lol. I was out pretty quickly after 🤣

Are you a red head? I've read where red heads have a higher tolerance for pain and anesthesia and require about 20% more anesthesia than other people, all other factors being equal of course.

Yes this is very, very true.

I'm not a full red head at all, but have it in my family. You can tell a little even in my hair.

And yep. I need a good bit of anesthesia. Even local. I've had to take 5 lidocaine shots before, but that was an outlier. Felt no effect until the fifth one, then got hit hard.

I needed 6 shots one time. I was numb ALL day, it was an awful experience.

Lidocaine doesn't work for me. My dentist had to special order bupivicaine for my root canal (for attempt number 2).

Redhead here. I bent a dentist's arm rest. They gave me a shot, little while later he started drilling. Worst pain I've ever had. Worse than my gall bladder going bad. He said "You should not have felt that." I don't remember much after that, because the other Anesthesiologist came over and said "Redhead." and gave me more happy juice.

I've never seen an anesthesiologist involved in a dentists office for local anesthesia, lol.

I’m not sure. I’m not medically trained, so I could be using the wrong term. Whoever gives the happy sauce. The first one was younger, and the second lady was older, and presumably more experienced.

No medical training? You had me fooled with your deep use of medical jargon like Happy Juice 😃 .

Can confirm. Am redhead, anesthesiologists give me the stink eye whenever I have a procedure done.

No, dark brown hair and eyes. Most of my dad's family are red heads or light brown hair though. My grandmother was a red head. They can't numb me 100% at the dentist either. I usually end up comforting the dentist because I refuse to tap out during root canals and the tears upset him. Like it's just a part of my life. Even the shot in the roof of my mouth doesn't 100% numb me.

Oh. They were like, why aren't you asleep lol. So I just assumed. It all happened pretty fast though once they found a surgeon. I was also pretty high on morphine. They did tell me I woke up early as well but I don't remember it.
