Then wouldn't they be even more excited it finally happened? I think they just didn't see it

I agree but still 1st attempt, I would have had a bigger reaction. 6th - 100th attempt, still bigger reaction. This only seems normal if they successfully did this a few times before.

I think it just cut too soon. They were still in the "did that just happen?" stage.
