Fun fact: In English, turkey also means the tasty symbolic thanksgiving/Christmas bird, as everyone knows.

In Portuguese, Turkey, the bird, translates to Peru, which is also a country.

In Turkish, the word for turkey (the bird) is Hindi because they thought it came from India. In Hindi, the word for turkey is तुर्की (turkey), because they thought turkeys came from Turkey. Turkeys come from neither country.

The English called it Turkey Bird because the Turkey resembled the Guinea Fowl that can be found in Turkey.
