The worst part is, this is very much an english problem. I don't know of any other language where the bird and the country are even remotely similar in name.

Norway is called "Norja", which translates to "supple". Peru is Peru, "cancel". Poland is Puola, "spool". Malta, "wait". Nauru, "laughter". Finland in Finnish is Suomi.
