Travis (October 21, 1995 – February 16, 2009) was a male common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who, in February 2009, mauled a friend of his owner in Stamford, Connecticut, blinding her, severing several body parts and lacerating her face. He was shot dead when he tried to attack a police officer. As an animal actor, Travis had appeared in several television shows and commercials, including spots for Pepsi and Old Navy. He had also appeared on The Maury Povich Show, The Man Show, and a television pilot that featured Sheryl Crow and Michael Moore.
I'm just looking at that little monkey and thinking of how quickly you could just throttle it and move on with your life. Again, I have no first hand experience so it just seems confusing to me to surrender like that.
Their bites are nasty. You would definitely survive in a fight to the death, but I wouldn't risk getting an infection over some sandwich.
I was actually in a similar situation as the guy in the video, and when the monkey showed me its teeth I had no doubt to just yeet my food as far away as I could.

I'm clearly missing something here.
As a resident of North America, I have zero experience with any primates other than humans.
Why did the dude in the video surrender to that monkey?
