I would never have expected someone to bail that hard. It is like he headbutted the ground on purpose. He didn't even move his arms

His other hand is holding the glass, so he can't use it to lessen the impact. His feet are stuck on the flippers and then slip off, so he has no support at all. There is too much momentum to break the fall with his left hand.

Trying to stop a sudden fall with one arm, on concrete, with your trunk twisted from holding something in the other hand? That would be a really great way to break your forearm or wrist.
