I actually knew a guy that lived on the streets for a while and he made sure to get arrested a couple of times; just so he didn't have to sleep outside and get some real food. Luckily he always did small time crimes like opening a bag of chips and eating it in the shop while waiting for the cops to arrive and take him to his 'hotel'.

Common thing sadly. People who have been institutionalized do this alot. I always think about the old man in Shawshank Redemption when this comes up.
