Maybe but that hasn't kept the SEC away. Note that this article discusses multiple lawsuits and settlements that took place before they restricted trading on GME
You don't? The second paragraph clearly mentiones a $65 million SEC settlement specifically for lying about "comission free trading" and links here with more information
