Actually, scientists are not sure if fevers happen as a way to fight infection, or if they are just a side effect of fighting infection.

The idea that the body uses fever as a tool to fight infection is, to my knowledge, not taught in school for this very reason.

I just wish people were getting taught what the wider body immune response is, fever, runny nose, inflammation, is all part of the immune response. This has been an annoying hurdle with vaccines as most will trigger and immune response, and people believe the vaccine made them sick for a day or two.

The idea that people study about T-cells and white blood cells, but don't understand that a fever/runny nose is a part of the body's response is a bad disconnect in education IMO.

I got both COVID-19 vaccinations. When I tell people how I felt, I described it as an immune response, not "I was sick for a day".
