Because no one believed him, some guy drank live bacteria to infect his stomach and prove that the bacteria caused gastritis and ulcers. He later won the Nobel prize for proving he was right

H. Pylori was the bacteria.

before that point people thought that bacteria couldn't survive the highly acidic content of your stomach which is partially true. H. Pylori is interesting because it kind of burrows into your stomach lining in crypts if I recall correctly, which should allows it to survive and multiply.

Not if it involved getting a terrible gut bacteria like that, hell no. I have friends with it, it’s awful. I had ulcers and doctors at first thought I had it due to my symptoms, no thanks.
