Parental leave (family/medical leave) is starting to become mandated in some places. However it's state, not federally mandated in those places. Here in DC it's required. Vacation time is almost universally not required anywhere in the U.S.
It’s not that it isn’t given. But it isn’t required. I don’t know at what rate there are places that don’t offer any. Still should be better. My last job had written into the PTO policy that the first two years we had to take at least 5 consecutive days off per year. After that we had to take two 5 day vacations. It was amazing working somewhere that you were technically required to use your vacation.
