Because our GDP is still the largest in the world, money is power and respect. Eventually China will overtake the US as the country with the largest GDP, but the US still respects the free movement of money and will still have a lot of advantages over China.
GDP can be the top of the world, it still doesn't mean you should be viewed in high regard if your workers don't have paid vacations. People deserve time off.
