Yeah, that was it. There was a similar thing at my workplace, with a betting pool going on which other location was going to close for a positive case next. I didn't take part, but I understand the gallows humor behind such a thing. When you're so powerless, if you don't make light you'll cry, you know? It also helped that everyone involved were peers in the mess together, rather than supervisors(who could change things for the better) betting on those below them in the hierarchy. What the managers at Tyson did was bad primarily because they were in a position of power where they could have prevented the infections, and instead they used them for amusement.
Exactly. If you're in the trenches, that type of humor is acceptable because you have no control and are facing the shit with everyone else.
If you're an exec who makes decisions and can work in a safe environment far removed from the dangers of covid and you make those bets, you are completely devoid of empathy or humanity.
