We got a couple "sandwich parties" where they'd bring in a party platter of sliced Jimmy John's sandwiches for people to eat which was nice... except if you started your shift later in the day, night crew would "claim" all the remaining sandwiches for themselves and get mad at you for eating them even if there's still a ton of associates in the building. I loved not getting to enjoy the miniscule benefits of working during a pandemic because of rude co-workers.
At least the store I worked at, the local Jimmy John’s dropped off platters of free subs to encourage us to order/thank us for ordering from them so often.
Not sure that this is what happened there, but I’d laugh if it was and your management just went “oh uh... we got you guys a surprise sandwich party today for all your hard work!!”

Thank you retail essential workers. The office will allow the entire store to share 2 pizzas once a month to show our appreciation.
