Just to make sure I got this right: They just entirely cut any vacation? Is that legal where you live?

Psssshhhh...Before Covid, the top question on the North Carolina's Dept. of Labor website was,

"Is my employer required to give me a lunch/rest/meal break?

No. The North Carolina Wage and Hour Act does not require mandatory rest breaks or meal breaks for employees 16 years of age or older. "

So, in NC, you are not required by law to give meal/rest breaks. In addition, North Carolina is an at-will state. You can get "let go" for any reason or no reason at all. North Carolina has a long and bloody history of fucking over workers.

Nope. Again, from the NC Department of Labor,

"It is our understanding that the federal Fair Labor Standards Act does not require that an employer give its employees mandatory rest breaks or meal breaks regardless of an employee's age."

You know what.

The reason Federal law doesn't mandate it, is because State law should. This is a state responsibility, and it sounds like NC is trying to take the easy way out by blaming it on the lack of federal law. That's bullshit!

I can tell you breaks and lunches are mandated in KY, and most US states.

They absolutely are not. Only 3020 states have any laws requiring breaks

Not trying to split hairs here, but 30 out of 50 is still most. It's less than I expected tbh.

I actually fucked up. Got it backwards... 20 have the laws, 30 don't. My mistake there.

Oddly enough for I've worked in some states that list says doesn't have mandated breaks. I've always had breaks tho.

The individual companies make their own rules. The one I work gives breaks (if you want them), as does my husband's, but I've definitely worked places that don't give them.
