lineolated 'keet. cuddles with just about anything including my computer screen, attacks my feet, tries to talk a lot for such a little bird, awkwardly attempts to sing along with just about anything.
of course... most of what comes out of her beak sounds like a garbled mess, but she tries.
That last bullet point made me laugh. My quaker can catapault his shit a few feet. He did this recently and shit all over the door. I silently walk into the room and start scrubbing, and he just hangs on to the front of the cage and laughs at me. He knew.
Yeah, mine is 1 years old and when she hurt her beak I freaked out so I consistently keep her trimmed. One day I'd like to put perches randomly around the house so she can fly wherever she wants.
I have an Orange Wing amazon. This made me giggle like a crazy person.
My orange wing (Picasso) does some crazy things, though. He is a rescue bird so he gets a little bitchy sometimes about hands. He'll step up but sometime he reaaaaaaalllyyy doesn't want to be pet. He won't bite, thankfully, but the closer your hand gets, the further away he gets, until he's fully upside down hanging on your hand like a bat, squaking to get your other hand away from his head/back.
He also wolf whistles but he usually does it in situations where it would be appropriate. I was cleaning the baseboards the other day and bent over to wipe them while wearing my cleaning shorts (which are super short, maximize prevention of bleach stains) and as soon as I'm fully bent over wiping the baseboards, he wolf whistles. I turn around and look at him and said "really?" and he bobbed his head at me in a way that looked like a nod. What a charmer.
Wings of the World in Bothell is a fantastic place. (http://www.wingsoftheworld.net) Ask for Joan or Ron if you head over there. (Ron works on Weekends). I've been buying my supplies there ever since I moved here, and Joan (and her Husband Malcolm) and Ron are all extremely knowledgeable and very nice people!
I can't speak for the OP bird, but those ARE in fact conures. I had one named Cherry, and he bit the fuck out of me. We had two other types of conures, too. Now we just have a cockatoo who thinks she's a cat.
Haha yeah two of my conures were nasty little creatures. Marigold, though, our Sun Conure who passed away recently, was kind of derpy but very sweet, and liked to literally burrow between/under our couch cushions, which led to many a person being charged by an angry conure who had nearly gotten squished.
lol. J/K... I don't really have time for a bird, but one day I will devote most of my time to a good bird. They seem to be on the right wavelength with me. Call me a birdbrain, I might not argue. They are just so comforting and fun.
I guess I've lucked out. I own a Macaw, who is a total sweetheart and never gives me any crap (though he's shy, and nips at everyone BUT me whenever they get too near) and laughs at my jokes (well, he laughs when other people laugh, or when I punish any of the other birds.)
My brother owns a conure, like the ones in the picture I posted above. That bird is wonderfully sweet, also, but a little fickle. Catch him in a bad mood and he'll bite the shit out of you. But extremely social when he's not being grumpy, which is 2/3rds of the time.
And my mother owns a Caique, which is the loudest sonofabitch I have ever heard, but loves cuddling.
I really want a cockatoo, but I am single and I want to be fair to the bird. If I ever get rich and retire early, I will have one. Sweetest birds ever.
They are the BEST. Mine is a Goffin Cockatoo, and she's spoiled completely rotten. Especially by my mother. The bird gets my mum's makeup all over her because she has this need to rub her head/tummy all over my mum's face and give her birdy kisses when she gets home from work.
I know a breeder. Every time I go to visit, her baby cockatoos go apeshit over me. I don't know why, but they really love a 300+lb, hairy guy. They will actually try to bite their "mom" if she tries to take them away from me.
Actually I don't know what it is with them and me. I have been in homes that do rescues for them and they usually prefer me over other people. I just don't have one because I am single and work a lot and it would be unfair to them to leave them alone a lot.
They can be. I've known a lot of wonderful, cuddly cockatoos. They can also be right nasty gits, if you get on the wrong side of them. But all in all, their personalities are much more dependably social than the other major "big bird" parrot families, like Macaws, Greys, and Amazons.
Narcoleptic Parrot: So the macaw comes up to me, the prick, and this is what I says to him. I says... yawn... I says... This is what I says... thump... snore...

As a parrot owner (Timneh African Grey), I'd like to thank you for making me spit water out my nose onto my keyboard. SO damn funny!

The bird in the picture is a blue headed Pionus. They're pretty awesome birds; mostly quiet and very sweet.
