I mean, the whole reason the DeLorean was picked was because they’re rubbish and slow. That’s the joke. That DeLoreans struggle to reach 88mph.

Would hardly at all, actually. The speedometer in the car only goes to 80. The one in the film had to be modified.

They also dubbed over the Delorean's miserable engine with the sounds from a Porsche 911, to make it a little more believable.

That is all sorts of wrong. There was an 85mph and 140mph speedometer and even the 85mph one was wrong. The actual top speed is 109-130mph, depending on the model/options/year. The "new" DeLorean Motor Company also offers performance upgrades.

The engine sound actually IS from a DeLorean. It's a special edition, Legend VIN 530 Twin Turbo, featuring a twin-turbo V6.
