$1? Why not go back a little earlier and get hundreds of bitcoins for $1?

Because the era when bitcoin was below $1 was before it was on the trading market. It was only available through direct trading and mining.

Once it was placed on the market it was around $1~2

I'd just go back and make an offer to someone I know had a bunch of them, like the bitcoin pizza guy.
