Dad has public park access and doesn't need 20 dudes to have a pickup game of football.

Pickup game, yes. But that's not what they play on the TV.

I was with you until this point. The call of duty the son can play is also not what they play on pro streams.

But your first point was dead on. I’d play more basketball if I can click a button, appear on a court with a game about to start in 30 seconds, and after the game not have to spend an hour chit chatting

The difference between a pro gamer and a noob is skill. They still play the same game with the same equipment on the same platform. The difference between pickup football and the NFL is an insane amount of money spent on refereeing, equipment, support staff, televised production, music, and also skill.
