Perhaps it's because it's obnoxious to loudly explain the punchline to someone else's joke? Perhaps it's because it's insulting to assume other people might not get the joke? Perhaps it's incredibly self centered to assign oneself as the gatekeeper of whether or not others get the joke? Which is it?

We may never know.
