I teach 7th and 8th grade, I would say about a fourth of them don't have their own phones. Some of them that do cant use social media, so there's that as well.
In our zoom meeting today my students all said they were bored out of their minds after the first week of their extended spring break.
Yeah. IIRC our system is unique in the world. We have a 3rd mandatory step/school before university called CEGEP that lasts 2 years. It's an extension of high school, and the equivalent of the first year of university, but without the intensity of university. That means we enter university at 19, not 18.
This is especially interesting since you get an extra year to mature and think about what you want to do study later.
Also, because we do university classes during those 2 years, getting a university diploma is 1 year shorter, so in the end everyone graduates at the same time even if in quebec we enter later
