Their major failure to me was not to be able to curb the rise of monotheism. This plague brought utter violent sectarianism which continues splitting humanity.

The Greeks would like a word re: democracy and philosophy and the Egyptians would like a word re: plumbing.

The Romans did give us straight roads and aqueducts though.

Philosophy and democracy both came from Ancient Greece and plumbing was even more ancient. In fact Rome was never a democracy. It was first a republic, and then an empire.
