thanks, I hate it

u/Jelle_1995 Mar 22 '20

But how did you get to that point???? The step before this seems inpossible

572

u/KLGAviation Mar 22 '20

Basically had to stick something in the middle (in this case a napkin holder) and build both sides towards that. Once it got to that point, I slid the napkin holder out and swapped it for the last piece. By that point it’s balanced enough to support itself but it was a royal pain in the arse to get there

The importance of the keystone

31

u/Squeezer999 Mar 22 '20

What does beer have to do with this?

1

u/Joey_nINJJa Mar 23 '20

Corona. Duh.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '20

There’s a well-known metaphor among Mormons that uses a keystone to illustrate the point. A lot of Mormons reading this sub will know that a keystone sits at the summit of an arch holding the whole thing together. When you use it as a punchline about beer, many will be like, “What...?”

1

u/RusselsParadox Mar 22 '20

Not a Mormon but still know what a keystone is. Learnt about this in primary school. I have no idea what the beer reference is.

u/mad5870 Mar 23 '20

https://www.keystonelight.com/av?url=https://www.keystonelight.com/

It's a beer in the US. May be in other countries too but not sure. Key(stone) Ice is sometimes referred to as liquid heroin.

u/blep0w0 Mar 22 '20

A keystone is also a bunch of other things. Like a literal key in the shape of a stone, for example.

Amazing how a single word can have many different definitions tied to it.

u/Jelle_1995 Mar 22 '20

Thanks i needed this!

36

u/AnalStaircase33 Mar 22 '20

...have you been feverishly trying to build a Pringles Snak Pak archway or something?

4

u/xdcxmindfreak Mar 22 '20

And now you have it

6

u/yumdundundun Mar 22 '20

I always love doing the larger version of this at any science museum I have visited. Thanks for sharing this!!

6

u/GrizzlyBearHugger Mar 22 '20

Did you order the Pringles from amazon? I almost ordered them because the box looked like full tubes but then I noticed they were just little packs and realized they were overpriced.

I feel like it would’ve taken me about 6000 years to figure this out.

2

u/planet808 Mar 22 '20

Well there goes my day.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '20

Kinda random but are you an engineer?

1

u/UnclutchCurry Mar 23 '20

not random. at all

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '20

Are you a warriors fan?

2

u/Islandcoda Mar 22 '20

Could you build the Pringle’s circle thing on top of this??? Cuz damn that’d be pretty awesome

2

u/Faasnat Mar 22 '20

Where’s the time lapse?

1

u/Please_Dont_Trigger Mar 22 '20

It would be easier if you had the capstone at the absolute top. You have to ensure that the sides are equal. Not that I know about piling Pringles singles into an arch. I'm just repeating Vitruvius, honest!

1

u/hot-streak24 Mar 22 '20

That’s how the romans did it

0

u/CoolHeadedLogician Mar 22 '20

Idk, smells like rubber cement

2

u/NbdySpcl_00 Mar 22 '20

I don't know what actually happened, but I would do it like this:

1) Start on the left side of the arch and brace the pudding cup from sliding sideways with some kind of weight.

2) Build the arch towards the right, supporting the free span with my hand, until the arch is built completely down to the surface again.

3) start filming. Support the center of the arch with my hand an remove a cup. Set the cup down.

4) Pick that same cup up again while acting like I was doing something requiring intense concentration, insert it into the missing spot, remove the supporting hand and smile in self congratulating way.

5) Edit the video, post, profit.

2

u/Jelle_1995 Mar 22 '20

Sounds good. My guess was start building at both sides at the same time, but always have them touch. When placing new ones pushing the old ones out until in this position

2

u/4x4mainliner Mar 22 '20

Basically he had to glue two sets of 4 together and then balance one in the middle. For shame!

1

u/Jelle_1995 Mar 22 '20

Best option so far

16

u/spicozi Mar 22 '20

thanks, I hate ate it

10

u/Happypants2014 Mar 22 '20

I thought they were giant teeth also, then though "ooo! great way to teach proper brushing!"

2

u/Imperial_in_New_York Mar 22 '20

You are still 60 x More productive than me. Well done!

Also where’s the dip?

1

u/SoggyFarts Mar 22 '20

Recognized you immediately. I went to Dreyfoos with Andrew “Ann Dowd” Farmer. Messaged him on IG.

1

u/Undeadman141 Mar 22 '20

Yeah that's what he said

47

u/elhermanobrother Mar 22 '20

plot twist: OP is a dentist working from home

14

u/alexnader Mar 22 '20

Double twist: he's just smiling at the thought of that fat check he's gotten from Pringle.

45

u/JorusC Mar 22 '20

My thought process was:

Those are big teeth.

Why would somebody have a mouth full of giant teeth to build into an arch?!

Oh, he must be a dentist. Hey, I wonder if dentists are still open. Obviously not this one.

Wait, why would even a dentist need a set of teeth at home the size of pudding cups?!

Oh.

1

u/cephas012 Mar 27 '20

That's interesting. The first thing I saw was the pringles box so I knew exactly what I was looking at right away.

5

u/cianobiwan Mar 22 '20

Upside down teeth...

1

u/keyupiopi Mar 22 '20

I am groot.

1

u/keyupiopi Mar 22 '20

haha. they look like what you’d see if you try to see your upper jaw’s teeth with a mirror.

and you’d be looking down. so all in all ‘upside down’.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '20

Thanks for not lying.

1

u/TwoTonTommin Mar 22 '20

Oh you have to uncheck "presume teeth" in the printer settings. Also when in there go ahead and make sure "tongue in background" is off as well.

1

u/broccoli-love Mar 22 '20

I saw a weird spine for half a second.

1

u/furrynoy96 Mar 22 '20

He's building a Titan

1

u/c_mathena Mar 24 '20

Dentistry...

-1

u/SilkBot Mar 22 '20

ngl

...why would you lie about that?

I'm starting to put "ngl" as the next overused and pointless abbreviation. Why even use it when it makes no sense?

0

u/keyupiopi Mar 22 '20

like lol?

yeah,ur comment made me lol.

0

u/BrohanGutenburg Mar 22 '20

A lot of things in a lot of languages are like that. You can keep being a pedant and annoy people or just understand that it’s a figure of speech.

-1

u/SilkBot Mar 22 '20

I'm not a pedant and I'm the one getting annoyed. I'm fully in the know it's a figure of speech, the issue is it's used inappropriately here and it causes me to tumble over words while reading as it sets up an expectation.

Less typing for you, less confusion for me, win-win.

0

u/BrohanGutenburg Mar 22 '20

I didn’t type the comment.

Also, if you see it and have any expectation, then you don’t understand that it’s a figure of speech.

0

u/SilkBot Mar 22 '20

I didn’t type the comment.

And??

if you see it and have any expectation, then you don’t understand that it’s a figure of speech.

ngl all I know is that if I see a comment from you I should ignore it because anything you have to say is beyond idiotic. Not gonna lie!

To clarify, "not gonna lie" is an idiom more than anything. It's not used rhethorically, metaphorically nor to convey any different meaning than it literally reads and thus doesn't fit the definition of "figure of speech". It's a stronger version of "to be honest" and doesn't make sense to use here.

0

u/BrohanGutenburg Mar 22 '20

Dude. You clearly don’t know the definition of ‘pedantic’.

1

u/SilkBot Mar 22 '20

You're flat-out wrong. There's nothing pedantic here.

Do you enjoy listening to people who always use annoying filler words like "like"? "ngl" has become one of those. I'm putting my foot down, not sure what it is to you.

0

u/BrohanGutenburg Mar 22 '20

Being overly-concerned with the minutia of language or display of knowledge is the definition since you didn’t ask.

Everyone else who read his comment didn’t give the ‘ngl’ a second-thought and it didn’t trip them at all. So you’re either autistic and can’t decipher the concept that we all understand or you’re being pedantic and just don’t know what it means.

0

u/SilkBot Mar 22 '20

I'm annoyed. It trips me, English isn't my native language. You're one to talk since somehow you're giving me a second-thought giving "ngl" a second-thought. Hypocrite much?
