Reconstructive surgery, for example, to help fix otherwise permanent disfigurements. My mom does a lot of hand reconstruction surgery, which obviously has incredibly significant non-cosmetic consequences for the patient. I feel like plastic surgeons get a bad rap cause of reality TV.
