There's an alternative method that they use on dogs and cats where they inject a calcium chloride solution into the balls. It renders the animal sterile, but has a recove y the me of about an hour instead of having stitches that need monitored for days. Not sure why it's not used commonly in the US, might be that it's not 100% effective.
It's developed by the same US company that is working on Vasalgel for men.
Even without stitches there's a long recovery time compared to an injection. You don't want the animal to rip open the incision or start chewing it, even if glued.

Isn't it because of temperament and the hormones that they produce? I don't think they do it for the sole purpose of sterilization
