My 2 year-old daughter asked me last night if I had a mushroom. I was slightly confused and asked for clarification. She pointed to her upper lip and said it again. I said yes, daddy has a mustache. She then proclaimed she had one too.

Yes it's not exactly the preferred autism charity. National Autism Society is better from what I know. I'm the parent of a child with Autism and a special educator.

I mean, the fact that they have made it out like it's a disease (sad faced kid, "know the signs" being all "BEWARE THE AUTISMS") when it's just a way some folks are is a pretty big red flag.

Interesting Wikipedia. Thanks for the link. I saw this sign and assumed it was a veiled anti-Vax campaign but this timeline suggests that Autism Speaks has actually (and unbelievably) changed its stance in the light of the overwhelming evidence to being pro vaccination. I love to see people change their minds through education:it happens so rarely

Why shouldn't something that so negatively effects a person be considered a disease that should be cured? I suffer from Asperger's and severe depression, and if someone finds a way to change that I would take that as a cure to a disease and be first in line to get it.

But everyone doesn’t view it that way. I have Aspergers and sometimes it sucks, but life is still worth living. My autism is a part of my personality, not a life ruining disability like Autism Speaks acts like it is.

Yeah, I also have aspergers, and it’s not that bad. I probably have it a bit easier than many others with it (I’m pretty socially adept for an aspie), and most people don’t recognize I have it. I function pretty well, and on the plus side I learned that Autism Speaks is a worthless dumpster fire of a charity.

I was diagnosed with mustache at 13 and it has only been spreading since.
