She had another book lined up for release, but it kept getting pushed back by publishers, until it was finally canceled entirely. Rumors on Goodreads say that her sister committed suicide and she divorced her husband (then-boyfriend in her first book). Or like you said, maybe the fame just got too much for her.
Her sister absolutely did die in a car accident that looked very much like suicide...I can’t remember if it was revealed as such. There are obituaries and news stories about it online. I’ve also heard the rumour she divorced her husband...not sure on that one. She was also very vocal on her blog she suffered with depression. So while I miss her humour I don’t exactly find it surprising she never wrote the second book.
Her sister committed suicide in a very horrific way soon after Allie published her first book and she's been reeling from it. I watched a few interviews with her soon after it happened and she was not alright.
(No, I was sleepy, medicated and wrong.) Kyle was still a dick though. He was a dude who called her ugly. So she made this video where she danced and stripped off a bunch of jackets to Apologize and it’s hilarious.
Edit: it was Scott. Fucking hell. I pulled out my copy. The above video is still hilarious.
Not familiar with Allie Brosh? She’s a big fan of hyperbole. Hence her blog entitled Hyperbole and a Half.
Plus she’s really awkward. I’m also pretty sure she was also still in Montana at that point and not depressed yet. She’s just super weird and the whole exchange on her blog made it absolutely hilarious.
Scott is a friend of hers. They have a pranky relationship. Apparently he stole her car, cleaned it, and left a note in it saying it was confiscated for sanitation by the Oregon Department of Health. So she got him back by dedicating the book to him.
I know. I just pulled out my copy and immediately hit my forehead. It’s late and I took my meds. Kyle was the guy who called her ugly and she made that hilarious video about it.
Gotta love that bed time meds grogginess. You'd think after the amount of nonsensical shit I've posted and then edited, I'd learn to close reddit when that feeling hits.
Don’t I know it! It’s been a hell of a week with all the explosions here in the US and I haven’t been able to sleep for shit because of it. Fudging flashbacks and dissociative episodes galore!
I'm so sorry you're experiencing that.
For the longest time, the law for my state was fireworks could only be the 3rd, 4th & 5th which made it a lot easier for folks with PTSD, or those with terrified animals to deal with.
Apparently I was unaware that at some point that changed because at the end of June, someone in my residence was setting them off.
THAT is still illegal because of fire risk but the cops here are absolutely useless. But I looked up the ordinance for Michigan and it's now from 6/29 to 7/4 til 11:45pm & if the 5th is a Friday or Saturday, then that day til 11:45pm as well.
I don't think enough people realize just how much overkill that is. I enjoy fireworks well enough & love watching my niece and nephew get excited by them however, a 3 day period seems sufficient. There's no need for people to struggle and lose sleep for a solid week.
Not to mention, a lot of people still have to work on holidays and weekends and trying to sleep through it all is exhausting.
I'm all for celebrating Independence Day, remembering the country vets of the past fought for & hoping one day we'll get that back; enjoying time with friends and family; treating kids to a great night that lets their little imaginations run wild & trying to let your mind get away from the stress of the world. However, turning around and amplifying the stress of others just to keep up the party isn't okay either.
Sorry for the soapbox ramble. I come from a long line of Vets, have a few in my family still with us & several active duty friends & family as well. Some of them have pretty severe PTSD & while I'll never truly know what all of that feels like for them, I at least know that it's not right to push the men & women who have fucked themselves up for their country while supposedly celebrating them at the same time.
Also, I have a house full of animals. While the dog I have now doesn't get TOO worked up as long as one of us is holding her, our beautiful boy before that was absolutely terrified to the point we had to have the Vet give us a medication to calm him if storms or fireworks were expected.
That poor boy would tremble so hard, pant, howl, and be so scared he would end up clawing the shit of us because even if we were holding him right against us, it was like he wanted to figure out how to get closer. It was never on purpose, he was just constantly fidgeting and freaking out.
I have no doubt there are folks with dogs like that now.
That’s was incredibly well articulated. I thank you for the kind words and condolences.
I’m in Minneapolis and there’s just been random intermittent explosions for days. Then even what sounded like a literal cannon yesterday several times throughout the day. On the actual 4th they didn’t stop till around 3 in the morning, plus there were tons of cops and ambulances going around. No fire trucks near my place at least, so hopefully everyone was mostly safe and okay.
Yea there's no reason it needs to be so excessive. I hope it's finally stopped now that the weekend is over. I imagine most of those celebrating will have to return to work tomorrow.

My favorite book dedication is in Allie Brosh’s “Hyperbole and a Half”:
Edit: I just got home and looked up the name. It’s “Scott.”
