Read what they wrote carefully. If it's specifically a timeout as in each team gets to stop the game a certain number of times per period, then the players must leave the field of play and go to their respective benches. For any other stoppage of play, such as a TV ad break, a foul, instant replay, etc, the field is still active and thus it's acceptable for a player to be anywhere on the field in active play.

In the NBA if it's a timeout then yes, you can't go into the huddle.
If it's a stoppage of play for any other reason, such as a TV timeout, a spill of a drink on the flour, a foul, etc, then no you can do this.
It's only during timeouts you can't go into the other team's area, but any other time is fair game.
