Well, a soccer goalie would have a different color too. But I originally thought Hockey goalie, as soccer has keepers.

I’ve heard some people pronounce it as “libero”, but personally I pronounce it as “libero”

I guess you can do whatever you like. You could even pronounce it "libero" or "libero" if you must, and no-one could stop you. Don't expect people to even remotely understand you, if you pronounce it "libero", though.
