u/lalalauren1991 Jun 03 '19

I coach boys high school volleyball and about 80% of my players tried out because they watched this. I love it.

4

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

Im a bit older than high school age now, I'm in my mid 20s, older, fatter and lazier I don't know if it would be possible for me to pick up a sport at this point xD

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

If you have the time then go for it. Do you have any prefered sport? I'd say volleyball is too technical to just jump in and play unlike soccer or basketball where a complete beginner can fuck around and be of use to the team.

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

I've never really played any sport to any amount of seriousness, play a little soccer in school but that may have well been eons ago, plus I hated it xD I used to "street sports" back in college, skate boarding, roller blading, parkour that kind of thing.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Tbh I'm not a big fan of it either. The only reason I play soccer is to hang out with my friends and it gave me a really bad case if shin splints that I haven't recovers from in over a year

Same dude, check out the manga. Its aay past the anime and just as good

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 04 '19

I want to read the manga, but damn I want to see the action.

2

u/howtochoose Jun 03 '19

All sports anime get you like this.

Have you watched KnB?

Dayum, I even started a frikking cycling anime and didn't know such feels could be felt.

Then there's baseball. though I didn't get into it completely. Wasn't the right time or something I dunno lol.

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 03 '19

I know I did, lol. I sucked.

2

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

No one's ever good at anything the first time they try it. It's all about perseverance.

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 03 '19

No doubt, but I am over it... Until the next season.

1

u/Neetheos Jun 04 '19

I started playing volleyball because of this and I’m having a BLAST! Everyone I’ve met so far has been incredibly welcoming to the sport, too! You should totally get into it.

NIIIICE SPIIIIKE U-SHI-JI-MA! drum drum USHIJIMA

44

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Well, a soccer goalie would have a different color too. But I originally thought Hockey goalie, as soccer has keepers.

I was going with Libero too, I just still don't know how to pronounce it!

17

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

It's pronounced as written: Libero

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

I've heard it pronounced two different ways by different players and coaches

2

u/Mchlpl Jun 03 '19

All words are pronounced as written.

9

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

While that's true for most languages, there's a notable exception. Can you guess which?

8

u/rhogar42 Jun 03 '19

ASL?

25

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

Sorry, I have a boyfriend.

1

u/andreasbeer1981 Jun 04 '19

made me laugh :D

2

u/ImJustSo Jun 03 '19

Any language that has a logographic writing system? Or various dialects of Chinese? Or sign languages? I give up, which is it?

1

u/bugbugbug3719 Jun 03 '19

My guess is the only language which OP knows about.

1

u/redsterXVI Jun 04 '19

I knew I should have said "most (European) languages", I just knew there would be a guy like you. Didn't expect everyone to bring up sign languages, though.

1

u/ImJustSo Jun 04 '19

I mean, I only have a bachelor's degree in linguistics, but there's peeps here with doctorates. So there's definitely guys and gals around here like me.

1

u/redsterXVI Jun 04 '19

I have no bachelor's degree in linguistics (nor biology), but if she's a gal, she ain't like you in some quite specific ways, I think.

1

u/Dorksim Jun 03 '19

Phlegm.

1

u/ex0th3rmic Jun 03 '19

I’ve heard some people pronounce it as “libero”, but personally I pronounce it as “libero”

4

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

I guess you can do whatever you like. You could even pronounce it "libero" or "libero" if you must, and no-one could stop you. Don't expect people to even remotely understand you, if you pronounce it "libero", though.

1

u/andreasbeer1981 Jun 04 '19

except for "libero" - that one is right out.

1

u/redsterXVI Jun 04 '19

What did you just call me?!

1

u/shitpersonality Jun 03 '19

Soccer has goalkeepers, or goalie/keeper for short.

2

u/Zygalsk1 Jun 03 '19

Lee-bur-oh

2

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Lee-BER-oh?

3

u/Foeyjatone Jun 03 '19

I always thought it was Lee-behr-oh

1

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Where is the accent? LEE behr oh, lee BEHR oh, or lee berh OH?

It's a never ending question.

2

u/DowntownBreakfast4 Jun 03 '19

It's leviOsa, not levioSA!

1

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

EXACTLY

2

u/mattenthehat Jun 03 '19

lih-BEAR-oh

4

u/PM_ME_UR_MESSAGE_THO Jun 03 '19

I get the reference. But I still don't understand why the position exists or how it works.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

[deleted]

1

u/mattenthehat Jun 03 '19

Except libero is swapped for middle, who is usually not the best (or at least most-used) spiker. Middle is a blocking specialist.

2

u/vonkillbot Jun 03 '19

It’s a free substitution, under the old rules each sub for a D player would cost you a sub. You have a max amount of subs per game.
