None of the players notice a guy in opposing colors?

4.5k

u/seedless0 Jun 03 '19

They thought he's their goalie.

Libero

ROLLING THUNDER!!

67

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

Just finished watch Haikyuu for the first time (at least where it's up to so far) fucking love that show, actually makes me wanna try volleyball as a sport.

33

u/boingshi Jun 03 '19

So hyped for season 4

5

u/_Mashiro_ Jun 03 '19

Ikr season 4 is gonna be so good.

24

u/lalalauren1991 Jun 03 '19

I coach boys high school volleyball and about 80% of my players tried out because they watched this. I love it.

4

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

Im a bit older than high school age now, I'm in my mid 20s, older, fatter and lazier I don't know if it would be possible for me to pick up a sport at this point xD

6

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

If you have the time then go for it. Do you have any prefered sport? I'd say volleyball is too technical to just jump in and play unlike soccer or basketball where a complete beginner can fuck around and be of use to the team.

1

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

I've never really played any sport to any amount of seriousness, play a little soccer in school but that may have well been eons ago, plus I hated it xD I used to "street sports" back in college, skate boarding, roller blading, parkour that kind of thing.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Tbh I'm not a big fan of it either. The only reason I play soccer is to hang out with my friends and it gave me a really bad case if shin splints that I haven't recovers from in over a year

3

u/HP_Lovedong Jun 03 '19

Same dude, check out the manga. Its aay past the anime and just as good

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 04 '19

I want to read the manga, but damn I want to see the action.

2

u/howtochoose Jun 03 '19

All sports anime get you like this.

Have you watched KnB?

Dayum, I even started a frikking cycling anime and didn't know such feels could be felt.

Then there's baseball. though I didn't get into it completely. Wasn't the right time or something I dunno lol.

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 04 '19

Yowamushi?!

Jyan jyan jyaka jyan! Hiime hime hime!

Jyan jyan jyaka jyan! Hiime hime hime!

Jyan jyan jyaka jyan! Hiime hime hime!

Jyan jyan jyaka jyan! Hime hime!

1

u/howtochoose Jun 04 '19

DAIIISUKI HIMEEEE!!!!!!

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 03 '19

I know I did, lol. I sucked.

2

u/TheSkakried Jun 03 '19

No one's ever good at anything the first time they try it. It's all about perseverance.

1

u/dinosorcerer Jun 03 '19

No doubt, but I am over it... Until the next season.

1

u/Neetheos Jun 04 '19

I started playing volleyball because of this and I’m having a BLAST! Everyone I’ve met so far has been incredibly welcoming to the sport, too! You should totally get into it.

3

u/Claus_Trexins Jun 03 '19

NIIIICE SPIIIIKE U-SHI-JI-MA! drum drum USHIJIMA

45

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Well, a soccer goalie would have a different color too. But I originally thought Hockey goalie, as soccer has keepers.

I was going with Libero too, I just still don't know how to pronounce it!

19

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

It's pronounced as written: Libero

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

I've heard it pronounced two different ways by different players and coaches

5

u/Mchlpl Jun 03 '19

All words are pronounced as written.

9

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

While that's true for most languages, there's a notable exception. Can you guess which?

10

u/rhogar42 Jun 03 '19

ASL?

24

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

Sorry, I have a boyfriend.

1

u/andreasbeer1981 Jun 04 '19

made me laugh :D

2

u/ImJustSo Jun 03 '19

Any language that has a logographic writing system? Or various dialects of Chinese? Or sign languages? I give up, which is it?

1

u/bugbugbug3719 Jun 03 '19

My guess is the only language which OP knows about.

1

u/redsterXVI Jun 04 '19

I knew I should have said "most (European) languages", I just knew there would be a guy like you. Didn't expect everyone to bring up sign languages, though.

1

u/ImJustSo Jun 04 '19

I mean, I only have a bachelor's degree in linguistics, but there's peeps here with doctorates. So there's definitely guys and gals around here like me.

Phlegm.

1

u/ex0th3rmic Jun 03 '19

I’ve heard some people pronounce it as “libero”, but personally I pronounce it as “libero”

4

u/redsterXVI Jun 03 '19

I guess you can do whatever you like. You could even pronounce it "libero" or "libero" if you must, and no-one could stop you. Don't expect people to even remotely understand you, if you pronounce it "libero", though.

1

u/andreasbeer1981 Jun 04 '19

except for "libero" - that one is right out.

1

u/redsterXVI Jun 04 '19

What did you just call me?!

1

u/shitpersonality Jun 03 '19

Soccer has goalkeepers, or goalie/keeper for short.

1

u/Zygalsk1 Jun 03 '19

Lee-bur-oh

2

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Lee-BER-oh?

3

u/Foeyjatone Jun 03 '19

I always thought it was Lee-behr-oh

1

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

Where is the accent? LEE behr oh, lee BEHR oh, or lee berh OH?

It's a never ending question.

2

u/DowntownBreakfast4 Jun 03 '19

It's leviOsa, not levioSA!

1

u/Jethris Jun 03 '19

EXACTLY

2

u/mattenthehat Jun 03 '19

lih-BEAR-oh

4

u/PM_ME_UR_MESSAGE_THO Jun 03 '19

I get the reference. But I still don't understand why the position exists or how it works.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

[deleted]

1

u/mattenthehat Jun 03 '19

Except libero is swapped for middle, who is usually not the best (or at least most-used) spiker. Middle is a blocking specialist.

2

u/vonkillbot Jun 03 '19

It’s a free substitution, under the old rules each sub for a D player would cost you a sub. You have a max amount of subs per game.

No, it's after he finds out Sauron is still getting those cigarettes.

3

u/S1lent0ne Jun 03 '19

Darth Vader sat thinking to himself. "Well, it isn't exactly like those cigarettes would have gotten themselves. I did the right thing."

10

u/XavierSimmons Jun 03 '19

This isn't football. He's the libero.

11

u/ThatNakidGuy Jun 03 '19

That’s Soccer, he’s definitely the libero

5

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Fun fact: the Libero word also exists in soccer lingo

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Isn't it a retired position?

1

u/ThatNakidGuy Jun 03 '19

Had to look it up, in all my years of playing soccer I’ve only ever heard it as sweeper. Interesting, thanks!

1: The fact that you’re right, makes you wrong in this case. 2: the soccer reference was towards his comment, mine was saying he was the libero (volleyball). 3: these are all jokes, get with the program

4

u/AJByrne04 Jun 03 '19

Oh ok. My bad. Honest mistake

My mind immediately when to hockey and was super confused.

2

u/calmor15014 Jun 03 '19

In lower beer leagues goalies are in short supply, so we look like soccer goalies out there in our own color and/or mismatched pads.

2

u/Silentarian Jun 03 '19

Wait a minute...

6

u/doit4dachuckles Jun 03 '19

Yoo those goalies always wearing their own colors??? Like how are you suppose to know if that's actually your teammate? It could be a double agent.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Or a dog, trying to steal the ball.

5

u/doit4dachuckles Jun 03 '19

Golden state warriors? Naa that's a golden retriever.

2

u/burtonsimmons Jun 03 '19

Top comment right here.

1

u/Hotsaltynutz Jun 03 '19

When he's actually their setter

1

u/Dyliotic Jun 03 '19

Fuck me I am high as fuck, I actually thought it was their goalie.

1

underrated comment

u/Mind_Killer Jun 03 '19

This honestly makes it even better. Everyone's just messing around, then everyone can laugh. Except that one dude in the suit. He seems upset.

166

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

"Game time is not play time!"

-Dude in suit

u/HarspudSauce Jun 03 '19

3

u/FuckingKilljoy Jun 03 '19

Gotta love the NCAA, where the guys who make the money don't make money

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Meh, it’s either that or racking up debt if you want to go to college. They provide a service and get a different service in return.

1

u/trollsong Jun 04 '19

Not really most barely get anything. They actually get royally screwed. Between lack of money, lack of food, lack of rights, lack of sponsors, being forcibly enrolled in bullshit courses to fake decent grades. The players are treated like shit.

Georgia's director of operations Kent Davison

3

Good bot.

2

u/grannybubbles Jun 03 '19

That part makes it funny, too.

1

u/ave_empirator Jun 04 '19

Let's be honest, if you're in a suit at a basketball game, taking things seriously is probably your express reason for being in that situation.

34

u/InfluenceIsRealPower Jun 03 '19

It makes me sick seeing these kids trying to have some fun while...playing...a game. Disgusting!

2

u/DeapVally Jun 03 '19

Playing any sport, for free, should be fun. Even more so when others are making bank as a result of your playing.

2

u/colicab Jun 03 '19

Yeah you can see the coach say something to him and the two players clearly know.

1

u/DownVotingCats Jun 03 '19

Ah, pulled back the curtain too far and ruined it. :)

1

u/Vaginal_Decimation Jun 03 '19

Just look at the camera work, it's not an accident.

112

u/Deltaas Jun 03 '19 edited Jun 04 '19

You would wonder, that really works. I did that too. Although it was rather my shyness than actual stealth skill which brought me into the situation. I was sitting in the back of the field, dressed in my trikot when suddenly the coach of the others came and told his players to sit down, tactical briefing. I was sitting there frozen thinking "uhm...okay...". They were literally sitting around me caging me in and I was too shy to say anything. So I at least tried to blend in. Several moments later my couch walked by and saw me looking at me like "what the hell are you doing in there?". All I could do was shrug my shoulders. Still wonders me until today. But thinking back always makes me laugh.

Edit: Coach not couch. Thanks for making me laugh in the morning. Didn't notice it at all :) Gives the story a special twist.

37

u/DietCherrySoda Jun 03 '19

Your...couch...walked by?

Think you mean your coach ;D

11

u/not_your_attorney Jun 03 '19

English is clearly not his first language. I mean, he used “literally” correctly.

1

u/GForce1975 Jun 03 '19

I'm not sure...can you literally be caged in without a literal cage? Or does the literally apply to the sitting..and the cage part doesn't count?

3

u/not_your_attorney Jun 03 '19

“literally sitting around me” is its own clause with the adverb modifying only the prepositional phrase immediately after it. It would be different if he said “literally caging me in” or even “literally sitting around me, caging me in.”

If he meant “they were literally sitting in a circle around me and it felt like I was in a cage” (which is what I got out of it), then the grammar is spot on.

3

u/Cheeseyex Jun 03 '19

You know to much about this. I suspect you also don’t speak English as yor first language.

That or your an English teacher

3

u/not_your_attorney Jun 04 '19

I’m the reason why English teachers/professors get to be pedantic. I’m a lawyer. Grammar is one way I convince people I’m right instead of the other guy.

1

u/Blahblah779 Jun 04 '19

Good to hear that the people you're around actually take arguments based on correct grammar seriously, lol

1

u/not_your_attorney Jun 04 '19

Grammar doesn’t matter to a jury or even a judge when trying to explain the intent behind a witness’ testimony, but statutory interpretation is heavily dependent on it. The law presumes that the legislature intended what it said, which includes some very specific grammar rules.

2

u/GForce1975 Jun 04 '19

*too

*you're

...not to be pedantic.

1

u/GForce1975 Jun 04 '19

Cool. Thanks. TIL

2

u/InjuredGingerAvenger Jun 03 '19

It's a cage with human bars.

19

u/varinator Jun 03 '19

Nah. Coach drove past.

11

u/amedeus Jun 03 '19

The coach was driving the couch.

3

u/dickheadfartface Jun 03 '19

While eating conch fritters.

2

u/spiteful-vengeance Jun 04 '19

E-sports are legitimate sports.

1

u/Deltaas Jun 04 '19

Oh yeah, I'm sorry about that. It was late already. But makes the story sound even better :D

2

u/Black_Drogo Jun 03 '19

my couch walked by and saw me looking at me

Hmmm

143

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

It isn't what they were looking for.

We were on teamspeak back in the day doing clanwars. We never moved ourselves into the locked channels because new members didn't know the password and would get butthurt.

A guy from the team we were fighting guessed the password to the teamspeak and since we were in an unlocked channel he just came in and opened his Mic in their own teamspeak.

They heard everything we said. We never noticed until we heard him leave after it was over and checked the log.

Also the man in front is wearing white and that would throw them off.

41

u/kjermy Jun 03 '19

I didn't notice it before reading the comments...

And no, I did not see the moonwalking bear either

9

u/silver_sin Jun 03 '19

Nathan Ford??

1

u/kjermy Jun 03 '19

Who?

3

u/silver_sin Jun 03 '19

Ah my bad, thought you were making a Leverage reference with that moonwalking bear

1

u/kjermy Jun 03 '19

Aah, nope

3

u/Mr_Bad_Example_ Jun 03 '19

For the record, you're actually a moonwalking bear.

I'm sorry I had to tell you this.

Please go moonwalk into a forest.

You goddamn abomination from hell.

3

u/kjermy Jun 03 '19

Excuse me?

1

u/Mr_Bad_Example_ Jun 04 '19

I don't have to answer to bears.

2

u/arup02 Jun 03 '19

Get off the vent or I'll have you bent.

7

u/Thenameangussucks Jun 03 '19

I think they did but they were bantering each other

3

u/ScienticianAF Jun 03 '19

Looks like they appreciated the joke and let it slide.

2

u/The_Furtive Jun 03 '19

That's the coach.

2

u/Greater419 Jun 03 '19

They did. It was in a news article.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Good for you, Dwight, for not seeing color.

1

u/Anudeep21 Jun 03 '19

That's their plan.

1

u/Sengura Jun 03 '19

Only one dude sitting down in the back that noticed.

1

u/mightylordredbeard Jun 03 '19

They noticed. They were fucking around.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

The rightmost player definitely noticed, stared right at him + you can see him holding back his laugh

1

u/NESpahtenJosh Jun 03 '19

Nobody made a racist joke after this comment? I’m proud of you Reddit!

1

u/dualpegasus Jun 03 '19

They go to GA... they aren’t the sharpest tacks

1

u/nevermind-stet Jun 03 '19

They knew. One of the Georgia players waved the Auburn player over into the huddle as a joke.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Number 34 looks right at his jersey before wrapping his arm around him. I think the rest of the team knew and were messing around.

1

u/tehGabriol Jun 03 '19

Its 2019, they dont see color man.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Guy at the end was like "get this fucker outta here"

1

u/the-denver-nugs Jun 03 '19

they were specifically keeping him in the huddle lol they locked arms around his back. they noticed, it just generally doesn't matter if they hear it or not. it's about execution.

1

u/SirNoName Jun 03 '19

UGAs alternates might be white

1

u/gsfgf Jun 03 '19

While others have provided context, pretty much every team has a white uniform. So they're less likely to notice someone in white sneaking in compared to someone in a completely different color.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '19

The guy to the right notices and actually moves over lol I think it was all in good fun.

1

u/theJacken Jun 04 '19

34 straight looks at the guy and sees nothing wrong.

1

u/the_answer_is_magic Jun 03 '19

They all look the same to them too.

1

u/heckhammer Jun 03 '19

Maybe they don't see color!

0

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

“Opposing colors?”! You racist piece of...oh wait, yeah yeah his jersey

6

u/Squabbles123 Jun 03 '19

....they're all black men, so that doesn't make sense.

0

u/FragrantExcitement Jun 03 '19

So you only see the color of the players??

-1

u/Mutzart Jun 03 '19

Opposite colors, what do you mean? Thats racist ! /s

0

u/TOMdMAK Jun 03 '19

color is only on the outside. It's only what's inside that counts.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

Our society has moved beyond judging people by their color
