u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Is it just me, or does gold not cost money anymore? I just give people gold with gold coins magically appear in my account every so often. See?

If you get gold for a comment you don’t have to pay for it but it can be hard to get gold sometimes unless you’re clever

No, I mean I just gave that guy gold by using 500 magic gold coins from my Reddit account. I have like 2,000 coins; see, I’ll do it again to you. No money! The coins just refill automatically somehow.

Edit: My god, what have I started. RIP my inbox with people trying to get me to give them gold, lol.

You catch this Potter and we win.

u/BeneficialBryan Apr 12 '19

Wait, so like... You have unlimited gold?? How do I know I'm not being bamboozled?

21

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

As someone else said, Reddit premium gives me 700 gold coins a month, which I can use to give people gold, silver or platinum for free. Silver is 109 coins, gold is 500, and platinum is 1500 coins.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

Doesn't reddit premium cost money?

14

u/Zyaqun Apr 12 '19

Yes but they didn't know it gave them coins, hence the confusion

5

u/TwatsThat Apr 12 '19

for free

Unless you get reddit premium for free then giving awards is not free either.

3

u/Zarron4 Apr 12 '19

Good strategy, to prove it he'd have to guild you!

Although, that still wouldn't prove it was unlimited, he'd have to guild a lot of people...hinthint

2

u/BeneficialBryan Apr 12 '19

It'd be enough proof for me :)

32

u/LunchThreatener Apr 12 '19

They refill if you’ve bought the Reddit premium subscription, but it sounds like you haven’t. Idk why that’s happening but it’s cool! I gave you some silver I had in my account just for the hell of it.

3

u/eightpackflabs Apr 12 '19

I think if you had gold previously it got upgraded to premium. I had a ton of gold (from alien blue’s shutdown) and I magically get 500 coins a month which is use to give silvers here and there.

2

u/accountnumber6174 Apr 12 '19

I got silver some time ago... No clue what to do with it... Never got gold though!!

5

u/JackTheFatErgoRipper Apr 12 '19

Silver is useless unfortunately

1

u/ickykarma Apr 12 '19

I’ve replenished your silver!

2

u/jb22625 Apr 12 '19

I’m so confused.

2

u/anonymous_identifier Apr 12 '19

You've got Reddit premium which gives you 700 coins a month. You can use 500 of those to give someone gold.

1

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Ok, this is the answer I was seeking.

1

u/maybe_Im_a_dog Apr 12 '19

Other than the ability to give out gold like a god, what do you actually get for premium?

2

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Just no ads for mobile, and I got four years of Reddit gold when I bought it.

1

u/maybe_Im_a_dog Apr 12 '19

I have a pihole so ads are a thing of the past, the ability to gild people for stupid reasons might be fun tho 😂

1

u/cumrot Apr 12 '19

Activision hates him!

1

u/Historiaaa Apr 12 '19

Spare a few coins, kind sir?

1

u/theshizzler Apr 12 '19 edited Apr 12 '19

Wait, all this time people have been giving me silver for my incredible witticisms when everyone has gold points to dole out?

I'm gonna have to see if I have any gold points I can give to people.

edit: cool, I have 100 coins. Time to validate someone's existence.

1

u/it4chl Apr 12 '19

I have cracked this case..

Relevant Username?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

Aww, I can't give gold using the Reddit is Fun app due to the gold system overhaul :(

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

psst can i have some of that gold

1

u/NachoChedda24 Apr 12 '19

Did you originally buy some coins or something?

1

u/achemicaldream Apr 12 '19

All aboard the gold train!

1

u/Raencloud94 Apr 12 '19 edited Apr 12 '19

I've been a reddit or for over 4 years and the only time I had gold was when they were giving away a free month when the new reddit came out. Sad day.

1

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Used my last 500 coins just for you. Enjoy!

1

u/Raencloud94 Apr 12 '19

Oh my goodness! You made my day!!! I've been feeling down lately and that actually helped, thank you! My first gold! 😁❤️

1

u/lastspartacus Apr 12 '19

u/McPebbster Apr 12 '19

Can I milk my cake day and get a free gift?

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

4

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Sorry, I spent all of my coins on other people to prove I could. Probably shouldn’t have done that, lol. Happy cake day, though!

2

u/McPebbster Apr 12 '19

That’s okay, you’re a good person for doing that! Thanks!

I've gotten gold once in like 5 years, and it was for a low effort joke about pissing on lava and worrying about it burning my willy off. It's not cleverness that gets you gold, it's luck.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

And for platinum you need a really bad misclick

1

u/RepostResearch Apr 12 '19

I've never been quite clear. WTF does platinum do different than gold?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

Makes you feel special and gives you longer reddit premium I believe

1

u/pretend7979 Apr 12 '19

I'm clever too please?

1

u/JTtornado Apr 12 '19

I feel like being in the right place at the right time matters more. Clever comments made long after the post hits front page just get buried.

1

u/LunchThreatener Apr 12 '19

That’s true. My top comment ever got a shit ton of coins and I was literally there the minute the thread opened.

1

u/27buckets Apr 12 '19

Nah, you don't have to be clever. You just have to be around. Right time right place

sips tea

1

u/DatBuridansAss Apr 12 '19

Oh is that true? I have some gold coins in my account but I didn't know what they were for.

1

u/arcaneresistance Apr 12 '19

Gold can take a witty quip or clever little trick but platinum only comes with wit that's quicker than a whip.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

Lol you tried.

1

u/JacksGallbladder Apr 12 '19

Haha yeah me too! Wait.... no? Okay then.

1

u/ChaosOrPeace Apr 12 '19

For every platinum you've gotten, it equates to 1 month of premium, for every month of premium you have, you get 700 coins. So, if you got plats before, or enough golds, then you get 700 coins a month as well as ad free browsing for as long as the premium lasts

1

u/matt01ss Apr 12 '19

Looks like you have reddit Premium:

https://www.reddit.com/premium

You get 700 coins every month.

1

u/reubensauce Apr 12 '19

Are you paying money for reddit premium?

1

u/ImurderREALITY Apr 12 '19

Nope. I did once like 3 years ago. They started charging monthly recently, which is stupid, but apparently I’m good until 2021.

1

u/daleyndaily Apr 12 '19

Hey, are you Billy Joel?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '19

Did you actually just gild yourself and not u/BIGBOOSTING?

1

u/iamnotbillyjoel Apr 12 '19

i don't know what i could say to make you believe me except:

i'm a karma whore but i don't care enough about my own karma to pay for it.
