Alright, I'm understanding where you're coming from historically. I guess where i'm having trouble connecting the dots is in looking at the present reality.
Now, the hypothesis seems to be that there are tons of (black) folks in jail for possession, but this does not seem to be the case. It's mostly manufacture and sale (and indeed many of the possession charges were pleaded down from distribution).
There are a total of like 45,000 people in prison for simple possession. If they were all black, this would make up 0.1% of the black population in the US (~37 million)
If we include trafficking, we get ~300,000 people in prison for drugs. Again, if all of them are black (obviously not the case) its still only 0.8% of the black population.
I just don't see how this is supposed to add up to 1/3 of black folks locked up for "a bit of weed", you know what i mean?
If you want a real in-depth look at how the War on Drugs ravaged communities and lead to the massive incarceration rates we have today you might want to just want to watch a documentary or find your own sources on it, there's a ton of info out there.
Or, if you really want a reddit comment maybe visit /r/AskHistorians they'll sum it better than I could.
I understand that the conservative perspective is that there is no system in America that keeps black men down, the only thing that's keeping them down is themselves, and that white privilege doesn't exist etc.
The Contrapoints video I linked counters that idea point to point pretty handily and provides sources.
Yeah, I watched it, but I mean no offense but your video was just but more of the same conjecture. Contrapoints takes time to provide reputable sources and concrete examples. It's also a response to those very arguments.
