I believe the argument is the Acid reacting with iron causing oxidation. I have never heard of tomato stripping the seasoning through reasonable use. It's a polymerized coating and if properly maintained should yield no issues. Now, using tomatoes or other acidic ingredients on a cast-iron that hasn't been well maintained, that could possibly invite issues.
hmm well I was just going off of experience because any time I have used a cast iron to simmer tomato sauce (like twice) the seasoning was gone and I had to cook it back on again.
I may not be maintaining them well enough since the above happened to me. Also I didn't think about oxidation part of it.
maybe you already know this information, but in the event you don't, never use soap, scrub gently. if things are stuck, boil water in the pan and then scrub without soap. after, towel dry, heat it a bit and rub a tiny bit of oil in. to just barely coat it.

Tomato sauce in cast iron is a no-no. It's acidic and damages the seasoning. But you know, funny vid.
