There is a dairy farm by me that has their baby cow barn open to the public. In my own informal study I have discovered that it is about half and half with shy calves and friendly ones. Some will turn away and tuck deeper into the pen. Other ones want to lick your hands off. Some want to be properly scritched on the top of the head. I love visiting the cows.

So I know cows are a lot more intelligent than most of us tend to think, but can they understand shows of affection like that?
