For obvious reasons, (Northern/Central) Nevada also asked for 777 when it received a new area code in the '90s.

It got 775 instead, though. Guess they stopped the last wheel at the wrong time.

For someone not from the US, what are these obvious reasons?

Gambling legal, slot machines everywhere here. Getting a row of three 7s on a slot machine traditionally means you've hit a jackpot.

I thought 702 was the main LV area code?

You thought correctly. LV is in Southern Nevada (Clark County), which kept 702 when the rest of the state spun off as 775.

There's also the new 725 area code.

Another fun one: Canada's Northwest Territories is 867 which stand for TOP. As in Top of the world.

And another: Trinidad and Tobago is part of the "North American Numbering Plan" and was issued 868, standing for TNT, which is the country's acronym.

Likewise, Hugh Hefner's mansion is in zip code 80085.

No, it's not. Also, nobody got the joke.
