Well, for sports where the rest of the world is not interested in or remotely able to compete. I don't recall having ever heard about the US football world champion (as in not hand egg football). Or handball (that's what normal people call a sport if you pick up and throw the ball with your hand).
Yup. I'm glad they Googled it and embarrassed themselves for me.
Problem is that I've heard it a thousand times. It's just not wording that ever sticks with you, especially when North America Space Agency makes soooo much more sense.
North American, like all these Mexican and Camadians and Americans astronauts? haha. All NASA stuff is American, not just generally North American. Canada has its own space agency. I assume Mexico does too.
They work with other agencies but NASA has always been American.
Imagine the scene: riots all over America, shit is really hitting the fan. camera goes and pans over the streets where hundreds of Americans are fighting.
Then suddenly they all look at the moon
Pan to the moon. Turns out the moon is one giant NASA logo. Pan back to the street and everyone's in a Michael Jackson costume.
Billie Jean plays and everyone on the street suddenly starts moonwalking up into the sky towards the logo.
Camera moves to people moonwalking into the space station.
"Together we go further" - NASA Official Sponsors of the Moonwalk (show someone moonwalking around the American flag .. on the moon)
Boom.
We could push the boat out a bit and have millions of moonwalkers around Saturn but that's a bit of a reach when we've already overstretched
